Data Reporter, Education
The Tampa Bay Times is looking for a data reporter who can help make sense of what’s happening in education – from preschool all the way through post-secondary using data as a primary tool in the toolkit. There is plenty of room to roam in this data-rich beat.
The ideal candidate knows how to obtain, assess and present data sets in multiple formats and is comfortable using advanced data reporting tools. They are skilled at negotiating for data, cleaning it and communicating it to readers. We’re looking for curious, resourceful reporters who can find and break news, identify deeper patterns and trends and can hold the powerful to account. We’re hoping to find a team player who is comfortable collaborating with our top-notch education team of two K-12 and one higher education beat reporters.
This is an exciting time to join the Tampa Bay Times, winner of back-to-back Pulitzer Prizes in 2021 and 2022.
In this job, you’ll also work closely with education editors and reporters from other news organizations through a collaboration with Open Campus, a national nonprofit newsroom focused on higher education.
To apply, please upload a resume and cover letter with a vision for this beat. Include links clips, if possible.
