TalentSprout Hiring for Contract Instructional Designer at Chicago, IL Full Time

The Contract Instructional Designer will work closely with business clients, project stakeholders, and subject matter experts throughout each phase of the project. He/she will design and develop custom training materials for blended learning solutions—typically facilitator-led synchronous and asynchronous distance learning for delivery to a 100% work-at-home audience.

This position will require a strong background in learning design and development and comprehensive knowledge of adult learning theory. Aptitude for authoring and developing content as well as creative script writing and storyboarding is essential. This role requires an individual who can work collaboratively as part of a design team.

The Contract Instructional Designer will:
Design, develop, revise, or document custom training materials

Author design documents, media scripts, simulations, facilitation guides and asynchronous course materials as well as manage the development of their own projects.

Interview subject matter experts to collect necessary data, raw content and custom information necessary to define desired learning outcomes.

Research and apply best practices and approaches of presenting and delivering training materials to adult learners.

Demonstrate an understanding of clients’ needs and available budget and timeline to design and build memorable and engaging training solutions.

Design courseware that enables the student to achieve the learning outcomes, including appropriate assessment of student achievement mapped to learning outcomes and Bloom’s taxonomy.

Communicate and collaborate frequently and effectively with various project collaborators, team members, SMEs, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure that objectives are being met.

Work with the appropriate team members to ensure that the technologies and delivery environment support the curriculum being developed.

Ensure overall project quality by creating learning solutions that achieve business results, and by building and maintaining good rapport with external and internal clients while effectively consulting and managing the project.

The candidate will ideally have:
A solid background in learning design and development and adult learning theory – we value our learners greatly and focus on developing training in a way that will benefit our learners and empower them to do their job well.

Excellent writing skills – to write clear, well-organized, engaging training materials, and to develop creative media scripts and storyboards.

Communication and collaboration skills – to work well as part of a design team, with subject matter experts, and with other project stakeholders.

Strong comprehension skills – this role may develop training for a variety of topics (systems training, customer service, tech support, etc.) so the candidate must be able to learn, understand, and prioritize new material, and then figure out how best to teach it to our learners.

Creativity – to come up with interesting and engaging ways to present content, to develop learning activities that are relevant and meaningful, and to come up with ideas for animations, interactives, or simulations.

Organizational skills – to effectively manage projects and content.

1-3 years of experience working in instructional design or a related field.

Bachelors degree required, masters degree or equivalent experience preferred
