The Manufacturing Site in Vienna is Takeda’s largest manufacturing site and proudly looks back on more than 65 years of expertise and breakthrough innovations for our patients. These cover plasma-derived therapies and biologics. 25 different products leave the Vienna site and reach patients at the local market and in over 100 countries worldwide.
Primary duties
This position leads the Vienna site’s overall operations to manufacture, test, release, and supply quality pharmaceutical products. Products include a combination of plasma-derived therapies and recombinant biologics products.
This position s to the SVP of the Plasma Operating Unit and leads a cross-functional management team to ensure all aspects of Safety, Compliance, Quality, and Finance are being considered to optimize site performance and metrics, implement operational excellence and continuous improvement and develop and lead the site strategy.
Operational Activities
Responsible for leading the Site Leadership Team to deliver goals and metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chai,n and Finance.
Has responsibility for complex multiproduct facilities with a high VOP and a large employee base (over 2000).
Monitor site performance to plan on a daily basis through the use of visual management systems (TIER structure)
Responsible and accountable for site safety programs and ensure programs are adequate to meet safety standards for employees and
Ensure adequate and effective Quality Systems implementation
Guide and monitor investment projects
Assure compliance against all relevant guidelines and requirements (GMP, EHS, ..)
Manage and monitor expenses and capital expenditures for investment projects
Monitor and manage financial plant performance
Provide guidance for Plant Management Team across Global Functions (Manuf. Sciences, Engineering, Quality, HR, Finance, IT, Supply Chain, etc.)
Ensure system development towards simplification and efficiency while meeting the necessary regulatory requirements
Responsible for interactions with other plants and functions within Takeda as well as contacts with the community, customers, and outside stakeholders.
Defines and executes budget and schedules and ensures performance requirements are met.
Is a visionary leader and change agent who will continue to grow the facility and its employees.
Leadership
Drive organizational and individual development of Manufacturing organizations
Lead the Site Leadership Team (SLT), including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and other Support Functions.
Responsible for directing, coaching, and holding the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) accountable for delivering site objectives.
Develop a strong succession pipeline for SLT and oversee succession plan for key SLT-1 roles.
Set and coordinate site goals and performance management objectives to meet Plasma Operating Unit tactical metrics and strategic imperatives.
Monitor progress against performance objectives and set priorities for continuous improvement, innovation, and digital initiatives to improve operations.
Responsible for developing and executing a Communication Plan for SLT and employees to ensure adequate communication with site employees across multiple shifts and functions. Ensures adequate communication throughout the organization.
Support and strengthen the organization and individuals in their decision-making process and act as a role model in taking, explaining, and communicating decisions for the plant.
Represent Takeda as the largest Biotech company in that region in the market and engage with external stakeholders and Industry associations
Strategic Activities
Develop and execute on long-range capacity aligned with various product business needs. Create and monitor initiatives to support capacity growth.
Responsible for site CAPEX ensuring projects are identified in alignment with the site’s strategic priorities and ensuring assets are maintained to meet safety and quality standards.
Develop a plan for continuous improvement towards operational excellence in alignment with site strategy.
Identify, develop and execute value capture initiatives that reduce year-over-year OPEX through implementing innovation, digital, operational excellence, and technology improvements.
Develop a plan to keep up with current and future GMP requirements and to standardize/harmonize procedures to global quality standards.
Ensure product development and life cycle management in accordance with strategic plans.
Support the Development of the Vienna Site towards a digital company.
Support and foster a modern working environment and an exceptional Employee Experience at the Vienna site.
Ensure DE&I and Well-Being Strategy.
Engage with relevant external stakeholders in strategic alignment with Takeda Austria’s business needs and foster Takeda’s interests in Industry Associations and engagement opportunities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Graduated from a technical, chemical, or biological college or university.
Several years of proven experience in commercial/clinical manufacturing operations in the Biotech or Pharma industry in a people management position.
Experience in a Quality or Manufacturing function, Audit experience
Project management experience
Experience in leadership of large organizations and multiple Functions
Experience in managing external relationships with Industry Associations and external stakeholders
Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and GMP requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing
Organizational skills and strong communication and change management skills
Entrepreneurship and financial business acumen skills
Build collaborative relationships in a multi-cultural and matrix environment.
Excellent oral and written communication in both German and English.
High EHS and GMP awareness

Internal: Member of the Plasma Leadership Team working with other Sites and Functions. Link to Plasma Derived Therapies Business Unit, BioLife, and Global Manufacturing and Supply.
External: relevant external stakeholders in strategic alignment with Takeda (Vienna) Austria business needs and fostering Takeda’s interests in Industry Associations and engagement opportunities (like the Chamber of Commerce, Pharmig, Federation of Austrian Industries)

A competitive remuneration package with a minimum salary of € 7048 – gross per month (full-time, collective wage agreement for the chemical industry) – the actual salary depends on your professional experience and qualifications.
