Your Opportunity

Provide efficient and timely financial accounting services to the organisation through the effective administration of financial management systems including reconciliation, interfaces and other accounting processes ensuring that policies and procedures, legislative and statutory requirements are met.

This position reports to the Senior Finance Officer.

This is a Temporary, Full-Time opportunity, to 21 April 2023 unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Nambour however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer operational financial accounting systems and general financial processes ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements including applicable legislative and tax frameworks, accounting standards, reporting requirements as well as TAFE Queensland’s financial policies.
• Undertake month end financial accounting processes including evaluation of account balances, journal preparation, accurate recording of revenue and expenditure accruals and prepayments.
• Undertake the necessary financial verification processes that support the integrity of financial information including the preparation of monthly general ledger account reconciliations to ensure internal and external audit compliance.
• Provide support for the financial aspects of contract management and compliance, both delivery and non-delivery including contract acquittals as required.
• Administer accounts receivable and debt management functions including undertaking proactive debt recovery to facilitate prompt payment of overdue accounts; liaising with debtors to negotiate payment schedules; preparing referrals to Debt Collection Agencies, in accordance with requirements and policies and prepare recommendations for irrecoverable debt write off, providing all relevant information to enable appropriate and informed decision making by TAFE Queensland.
• Provide transactional advice to Business Unit Managers regarding budgetary process and financial transactions.
• Contribute to the preparation of the supplies and services and employee costs budget and Forecasts in collaboration with the Senior Finance Officer.
• Contribute to improvement in business processes and practices, build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with team and business stakeholders.
• Ensure day-to-day activities align with business operations and adhere to TAFE Queensland’s Code of Conduct including the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.
• Other duties as required.

• Demonstrated skills and experience in financial accounting systems, data integrity and financial administration to ensure ethical, compliant and sound financial management practices.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and ensure individual tasks are achieved for the benefit of the team and the organisation whilst meeting deadlines.
• Demonstrated written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and interact with a broad range of internal and external customers.
• Displays the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

• Possession of an appropriate qualification in Accounting or Commerce.
• Two to five years financial accounting and systems experience.
