Your Opportunity

As the Asset Accountant you will be responsible for:

• Coordinating the asset accounting processes for TAFE Queensland as well as the successful planning and delivery of Infrastructure investment programs in collaboration with Government.
• Providing a vital link between business strategy and finance by identifying and evaluating the financial implications and wider operational impacts of strategic asset related initiatives, investment opportunities and other significant projects.
• Supporting TAFE Queensland to achieve corporate goals through the provision of timely and quality information, expert financial compliance and accounting advice, reviews and planning in relation to TAFE Queensland fixed and intangible assets and enabling effective Government investment in training infrastructure for the benefit of TAFE Queensland. This position reports to the Director, Asset Planning and Management.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity, unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Mt Gravatt however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide the Director, Asset Planning and Management with high level technical analysis, advice and support regarding accounting standards and financial and risk implications for proposals and initiatives concerning investment in assets.
• Prepare monthly capital reports including liaising with relevant business units regarding variances, trends and forecasts;
• Play a key role in financial performance decisions by assisting with the provision of quality information for the budgeting and reporting processes, including forecasting and variance analysis.
• Assist in development, implementation and management of equipment replacement plan and program;
• Ensure compliance in accordance with accounting standards and legislation in relation to fixed assets by developing and maintaining relevant policies and procedures relating to fixed and intangible assets as well as overseeing compliance with policy; create and monitoring a system of controls, processes and forms for the recording and management of fixed and intangible assets;
• Coordinate annual revaluation process, impairment, useful life review, stocktake and monitor and maintain the integrity of the asset register;
• Support the financial services team with month and year end processes, reporting, preparation and review of audit work papers as required;
• Proactively seek opportunities for improvement in processes to ensure asset management processes and financial asset processes align to each other and to TAFE Queensland’s vision and performance targets;
• Provide support and advice in relation to asset/ICT projects including reviewing new projects to determine capital and operating components
• Monitor and reconcile capital acquisitions and work in progress balances, including liaison with regional and corporate business units as required and promptly actioning capitalisation, disposal and write off of assets;
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide appropriate assistance and support and drive continuous improvement activities in relation to asset management including participation in applicable facilities and asset networks
• Provide training and awareness to staff in relation to asset processes and activities.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

• Demonstrated experience in contemporary asset accounting, including strong technical financial skills, with a high level of experience in, and understanding of, asset control, recording methodologies and systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and integrated financial software packages (preferably TechOne Finance) to extract and manipulate financial data for use across TAFE Queensland asset management programs;
• Highly developed skills in financial reporting, with the ability to analyse and interpret this into meaningful information to inform Executive decision making;
• Highly developed management and coordination skills and demonstrated ability to successfully participate in teams in order to achieve outcomes and develop solutions to complex situations.
• Highly developed communication, consultation, negotiation with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of key stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Proven ability to proactively improve systems and practices to ensure objectives are achieved effectively and efficiently, meet TAFE Queensland timeframes.

Highly Desirable Requirements

• CA or CPA qualified (or similar);
• 3 years’ experience post qualified; Education and training industry experience in the public and or private sector is desirable.
