Data Scientist, Huddersfield
We are currently recruiting for a Data Scientist. This development opportunity is located at our Huddersfield Manufacturing Centre, a world-class Agrochemical Active Ingredient manufacturing site. The successful applicant would join a multi-functional team within the Process Technology department, reporting to a Team Leader/Principal Data Scientist and supporting our Process Engineers, Process Chemists and Process Safety experts to drive improvements to our manufacturing processes using data.
No specific qualifications in data science are required, as full data science training will be provided to the successful candidate. More important is the motivation to learn new software skills quickly and be able to demonstrate some basic programming knowledge from their studies, as a hobby or through on-the-job experience. The most exciting part of the role is applying data science to all the work we do – so the role involves talking with others to understand their data science challenges, identifying opportunities to apply appropriate techniques and delivering insights to deliver better solutions to manufacturing problems and opportunities.
Applicants should be educated to at least Honours degree standard in a scientific or engineering discipline. Experience of process development chemistry/engineering or manufacturing would be beneficial.
This is an exciting, yet challenging role, working in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to plan and organise effectively and have a passion and flair for team working and problem solving. The role will involve supporting different teams across a broad range of projects, located at different Syngenta sites. Once trained they will be responsible for delivering basic data science training and coaching to a wide range of colleagues. There also are great opportunities for future career development at Syngenta sites around the world in this important growth area for us.
