An exciting opportunity has become available for an ASTRO 3D Education Outreach Officer to be based at Swinburne University as part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3D (ASTRO 3D), under the management of Chief Operations Officer (who is based at ANU) and the day-to-day management of the Swinburne Node Leader. This unique position will have the responsibility for planning and implementing the education and outreach activities at the Swinburne University Node. As our new ASTRO 3D Education Outreach Officer you will play a key role and enable the provision of local delivery of national ASTRO 3D education and outreach programs that are aligned with the ASTRO 3D Strategic Plan and the ASTRO 3D Education, Outreach and Communications Strategic Plan.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D) is a research partnership between The Australian National University, the University of Sydney, The University of Melbourne, Swinburne University of Technology, Curtin University, University of Western Australia, The University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and Monash University. It is also collaborating closely with the Australian Astronomical Observatory, CSIRO and other Australian and International partners. ASTRO 3D aims to solidify Australia as a world-leader in wide-field optical and radio astronomy. ASTRO 3D is answering fundamental questions about the nature of the Universe, is developing innovative ways of processing enormous data sets, and is helping Australian scientists and engineers develop and use high-technology instruments that will be crucial for the next generation of giant optical telescope around the world, such as the Giant Magellan Telescope, as well as radio telescopes such as the Square Kilometre Array.

About you

To be suitable for the role you will have:

• A degree in Science, with a preference for a major in Physics; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience. Qualifications and/or experience in astronomy or astrophysics will be highly regarded.
• Proven organisational, time management, problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise own workload, to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, meeting competing deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate scientific research to a broad scientific and public audience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
