Our amazing new Sweaty Betty Foundation, is working with the charity, Youth Sport Trust, to trial a new programme in secondary schools to help get girls more active. We’re looking for local, passionate, female instructors who can work to empower girls in schools to try new activities to find what they love! Instructors will work in local schools this autumn to deliver an eight-week programme alongside PE teachers that will really engage girls that need more support to get active. They will also provide support during the eight weeks to teachers on how they can run similar sessions themselves the following term. The Foundation and Youth Sport Trust will use what girls, teachers and instructors learn during the sessions to develop the programme further in 2022.
We think our incredible and enthusiastic instructors in the Sweaty Betty family can bring some magic to girls in schools! We’re looking for all types of instructors across a really broad range of fitness and physical activity.
The first step is building a list of keen instructors. Girls and teachers will then choose which types of classes they would like to try. Chosen instructors will then deliver the 8-week program with schools. So please let us know if you’re keen to be on the list by completing this quick application!

What You’ll Be Doing
Instructors will commit to eight weekly sessions in total, including:

• Session 1: Visiting the school to meet with teachers and girls to plan the sessions to really empower the girls to get involved
• Sessions 2 to 7: Delivering six weekly sessions in their area of expertise which could, for example be dance, fitness, boxing, yoga, Pilates, running or walking for fitness (but these are just examples, we’re keen to hear what we could offer to girls!)
• Throughout the six weeks, listen and take on board feedback from girls about how they can work together to make the sessions even better. In particular, instructors may need to adapt sessions to ensure they support girls who are not used to physical activity to enjoy them.
• Session 8: Meet with teachers and girls after the six weeks to get their feedback which will feed into the further development of the programme

Throughout the sessions, instructors will:

• Provide advice to teachers and school staff on how to potentially run similar activities themselves the following term
• Listen to girls and teachers and be sensitive around any cultural or language issues which they raise
• Follow all the school’s health and safety, child safeguarding and coronavirus prevention rules and guidance

Once the girls have chosen their activities and Youth Sport Trust have linked up the school and the instructor, the instructor will be working under the guidance and instruction of the school directly.
Timings will be decided with each school, but are likely to be one hour sessions starting between 1530 and 1600 Monday to Friday. Total time commitment is likely to be around 12 hours over the eight weeks including session delivery and discussions with teachers and girls.
Sessions will start in mid-October and run until mid-December (with a break for half-term).

Must Haves
We are looking for really enthusiastic and passionate local instructors who already have experience of delivering and tailoring activities for girls aged 13 to 18.
The absolute essentials

• A passion for diversity and inclusion
• Instructor-level qualifications in your relevant activity
• Experience of delivering activities to girls aged 13 to 18 and an understanding of the adaptations of activities needed to deliver to this age group
• Experience of engaging and communicating with young people, particularly those from lower income families and ethnically diverse communities
• Excellent relationship skills allowing you to work well with teachers and school staff
• Public Liability Insurance to £1m for your chosen activity which covers you to deliver in a school setting

We would love you to have the following, but they’re not essential

• Experience of leading programmes in schools
• Enhanced DBS certificate in the last three years
