The Role: Prototype Technician
Who are you?
The Prototype technician follows instructions to support Svante pre-production and production units. The Technician is expected to work positively and respectfully as part of a team. The Technician is expected to be able to recognize, troubleshoot, and support deficiencies mitigation and inform the Production Manager when they occur.
The RPL will provide direct design for manufacturing (DFM) advice to design engineers as they progress their concepts. The RPL will ensure that the concept design required for testing is adjusted for the most expedient methods of prototype manufacture ensuring testable design intent is delivered – minimum viable product.
The Technician will support the Production Manager in day-to-day decisions and mitigation of Safety, Quality, and Production issues. The Technician is fully empowered to halt production if any safety, quality issue or discrepancy is identified.
The Technician is expected to actively participate in Svante 5S and continuous improvement (Kaizen) programs. The Technician may also be requested to carry out TPM activities. The Technician will support with the design, build, and resolution for Manufacturing jigs, along with the Manufacturing Engineering group.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers to develop new manufacturing processes of adsorbent structured materials.
Assist Manufacturing Engineers with projects through procuring and assembling equipment and performing manufacturing trials for process and product validation, including QC testing and reporting.
Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time and recommend solutions to Manufacturing Engineering.
Develop, assemble, procure, or modify existing and new tooling, fixtures, and equipment to ensure efficient production methods.
Assist Manufacturing Engineers with revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures, including documentation of procedures.
Complete time studies to quantify processing times and identify areas for process improvements.
Assist with hands on training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment, and process revisions.
Schedule, complete, and document routine maintenance on applicable manufacturing and test equipment.
Read schematics, assembly drawings, data sheets, and process sheets to perform testing, build fixtures, checkout, and trouble-shoot equipment.
Assist in failure analysis, troubleshooting, rework/repair of non-conforming manufactured product to determine root cause.
Perform tests, gather data, and write results/reports with assistance from Manufacturing Engineering, utilizing various types of electro-mechanical equipment.
Promote and support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.
Maintains 5S excellence of the production area.
Conducts procedures within health and safety guidelines, informs Production Manager of deficiencies.
Carries out other related tasks and projects as required.
Key Qualifications:
Diploma in Industrial Automation, Mechanical/Electronic Engineering Technologists or Technicians; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-5 years of experience troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and implementing automation controls and systems.
Familiar with motion control systems. (Ex. servo systems and drives)
Ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently, and complete work on schedule.
Follow Manufacturing Engineers direction while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers.
Basic understanding and ability to read prints and schematics.
Background in practical electronics, electronic test equipment and troubleshooting.
Ability to execute a detailed test plan.
Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong problem-solving skills and efficient management of time and resources.
Effectively troubleshoot any PLC or electronic control-related issues within the facility.
Continuous improvement mindset with abilities to identify process inefficiencies and implement controls/automation improvements.
