The Opportunity
The City of St. John’s is presently accepting applications for the full-time permanent position of Sustainability Engineer.
The Sustainability Engineer develops and implements infrastructure solutions, policies, procedures and processes that advance the City’s sustainability priorities. This includes projects that deliver measurable improvements in climate adaptation, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, and resource optimization.
Accountabilities
Technical and Analytical
Conduct research and data analysis to identify creative and effective solutions to sustainability and climate change challenges.
Prepare feasibility studies, cost estimates, and grant applications; coordinate incentives to support project implementation.
Track climate adaptation priorities, energy usage, and progress toward greenhouse gas mitigation targets.
Project & Contract Management
Lead project and contract management for sustainability initiatives.
Provide technical and project development support to departments across the City to inform project development and funding applications.
Prepare reports, procedures, and recommend process improvements.
Collaboration & Advisory
Provide subject matter expertise and advice to Council, management, peers, and the public, including complex or novel sustainability challenges.
Support internal and community engagement for the development and implementation of initiatives.
Participate in committees and contribute input, guidance, and recommendations.
Flexibility and Responsiveness
Work extended hours when required and provide general support to the team.
Perform other duties as assigned.

This position requires use of a personal vehicle/access to a vehicle for business purposes as frequent travel throughout the City is necessary to carryout duties.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Hours of Work
Monday – Friday 8am-4pm
The salary for this position is Benchmarked at Grade 6 of Management Pay Plan, with a range of $114,364 – $147,567 per annum.
