Position Summary

This is responsible for developing and leading the yard staff to achieve services goals, ensuring Company processes are implemented and followed for all yard functions.

In addition, this role will monitor and evaluate process and outcome indicators; ensure compliance; optimize the process, operation and costs;

continuum in order to provide the best quality of services in the most cost-effective manner.

Essential Responsibilities

Manages yard staff, coordinates the activities of yard workers and ensures performance is within company standards, tracks hours, enforces safety protocols, and monitors customer service.

Works closely with Operations Manager to learn procedures and ensures understanding of yard department objectives and responsibilities.

Responsible for acting as the liaison between Yard and Operations to ensure a smooth and seemly interaction to react our goals.

Adheres to the approved department budget. Monitors and maintains department actual hours to approved budgeted hours without overage, while complying with all staffing requirements.

Trains staff on operating procedures and ensures the safe and effective execution of duties.

Responsible for motivating staff, processing and coordinating any employee disciplinary issues.

Maintains accurate yard inventory and equipment purchases according to operational needs.

Reviews schedules, switching orders, and shipping records to coordinate availability of equipment.

Coordinates for placing and pulling trailers from warehouse bay doors in accordance to shipping schedules and availability of equipment.

Monitors completion of staff responsibilities throughout the day and responds to off-plan conditions.

Communicates status and corrective action plan to yard staff and other departments as appropriate.

Evaluates staff’s performance according to company schedules and takes remedial actions to ensure performance standards are met.

Observes condition of yard equipment, and coordinates preventive maintenance needs with the maintenance department, as well as required repairs ensuring yard equipment is operating at optimal capacity.

Ensures compliance with Company transportation policies and procedures under DOT regulations.

Knowledge of all job tasks within department in order to complete task(s) if necessary.

Responsible for creating and developing security SOP’s and protocols to ensure all SNE assets and non-company assets in our control are managed.

Ensure the proper setting up new satellite yard locations.

Travels to various company locations as needed.

Maintains clean and secure yards. Analyzes yard safety, implementing and maintaining safe work procedures.

Coordinates with other departments and investigates accidents, identifying root cause of damage(s).

Knowledge of all company transportation procedures and operates company vehicles in accordance with those procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in trucking management, operations and / or logistics

Ability to think, analyze and act strategically.

Intermediate computer skills (MS office suite) / AS400

Excellent communication skills (verbal / written), self-motivated, self-starter, sense of urgency, well organized.

Tact, ability to work effectively with both employees and managers. Ability to convey a positive and professional image to employees.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to travel at least 30% of time. Valid driver’s license required.

Excellent customer service skills

Bilingual Spanish a plus

Ability to manage expenses with basic accounting and inventory management skills.

Ability to differentiate color.
