The role @ Sumo
Sumo Digital is expanding the Finance team to provide a fantastic level of support to the business as we continue to grow. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to take on a role in our central technical finance team, working directly with the business leadership and development teams and external advisors and organisations. The role is a unique opportunity, with all round finance and corporation tax exposure and a strong technical aspect, but with a strategic and commercial focus advising and supporting the operational business.
Within this role you will:
VGTR:
- Be responsible for the end to end process for Sumo’s Video Games Tax Relief (VGTR) claims, including working with development and support teams to understand games, through to ensuring all technical and legal processes work effectively and that claims are delivered on time;
- Develop a deep understanding of relevant UK VGTR guidance, working with Sumo’s external VGTR advisors, and use this knowledge to influence Sumo’s commercial contracts and optimise Sumo’s claims within the permitted rules;
- Manage completion of relevant subsidiary company statutory accounts preparation, audits and tax returns, working closely with advisors and auditors
- Lead the critical month-end accounting processes for VGTR, analyse and report on KPI’s and maintain & monitor VGTR utilisation data across projects
Group accounting and technical:
- Provide critical accounting technical advice to the business and finance business partners on IFRS15 and contract accounting, helping support commercial decision making
- Support on various aspects of accounting technical matters for the Group, for example IFRS16 lease accounting, accounting for acquisitions, preparation of Group and trading entity statutory accounts and supporting analysis
Corporate tax:
- Be responsible for the preparation of information for external tax advisors in relation to corporation tax returns across the Group
- Support the Group FC and Senior Finance Manager on Group corporation tax planning and cash flow forecasting, including optimising the use of losses arising as part of the VGTR process
To be successful you will have:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
- Strong technical background in practice or industry
- An interest in developing understanding of UK corporation tax and VGTR essential (training and support will be provided)
- Enthusiastic, team player
- Well organised, and able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Able to communicate effectively across all levels, with the confidence to question processes and recommend improvements
- A strong desire to implement change and best practice
- Strong excel skills and the ability to analyse and manipulate data
