Fleet Truck Driver

Job Summary:

Fleet Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and professional over the road delivery, pick up and transport of material for Sugar Foods on company trucks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a diesel tractor with a manual transmission
• Have excellent communication skills
• Be a team player with a great attitude
• Be able to work well with customers
• Maintain all local, state and federal laws
• Safely climb on and around tractor trailer equipment to connect, disconnect and facilitate unloading
• Pick up and deliver Sugar Foods products to customers on local and over the road routes
• Backhaul Sugar Foods or Sugar Foods controlled loads
• Maintain safe operation of Sugar Foods vehicles including driving and vehicle safety checks
• Be able to operate the Electronic On Board Data Recorder (EOBR)
• Keep accurate pick up and delivery paperwork records ing immediately any discrepancies or customer issues
• Maintain current and accurate logs and records as required by Federal and State regulations
• Observe all hours of service and other requirements as dictated by Federal and State regulations
• Keep accurate records of all pre-approved expenses
• Maintain a neat and clean appearance
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with customers, coworkers, and the public
• Maintain a clean and washed tractor and trailer

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years driving experience
• Current Commercial Driver’s License
• Current Medical Card
• Clean driving record with no outstanding driving violations
• Must have a good command of the English language, written and verbal
• Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors
• Must be able to perform the essential job requirements with or without accommodation

• Specific health levels as required for Federal/State driver qualification and demands of the jobFleet Truck Driver must be 21 years of age, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT), which establishes minimum qualifications for truck drivers engaging in interstate commerce. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – published by the U.S. DOT – require drivers to be at least 21 years old and pass a physical examination oncer every 2 years. The main physical requirements include good hearing, 20/40 vision with glasses or corrective lenses, and a 70-degree field of vision in each eye. Drivers may not be colorblind. Drivers must be able to hear a forced whisper in one ear at not less than 5 feet, with a hearing aid if needed. Drivers must have normal use of arms and legs and normal blood pressure. Drivers may not use any controlled substances, unless prescribed by a license physician. Persons with epilepsy or diabetes controlled by insulin are not permitted to be interstate truck drivers. Federal regulations also require employers to test their drivers for alcohol and drug use as a condition of employment, and require periodic random tests of the drivers while they are on duty. A driver must not have been convicted of a felony involving the use of a motor vehicle; a crime involving drugs; driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol; refusing to submit to an alcohol test required by a State or its implied consent laws or regulations; leaving the scene of a crime; or causing a fatality through negligent operation of a motor vehicle. All drivers must be able to read and speak English well enough to read road signs, prepare s, and communicate with law enforcement officers and the public.
