He saw an opportunity to build an innovative company and began hiring former teachers, editors, illustrators, graphic designers, and web programmers as the company began to grow. Summary – The Software Engineer provides support to the Chief Technology Officer for developing both frontend and backend tools for purpose of managing highly dynamic content, immersive educational applications, and cutting-edge analytics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities –

• Work in a team to architect and develop information systems from the ground up

• Maintain existing websites

• Provides support on system administration

• Testing and troubleshooting

• Assist in developing project requirements

• Develop standards-compliant web applications

• Self-motivated with a productive mindset

• Review and troubleshoot website issues

• Collaborates with other departments as needed

• Other duties may be assigned as needed

• Designs, modifies, develops, writes and implements software programming applications

• Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems

• Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software

• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

• May lead and direct the work of others

• May report directly to a project lead or manager

• A certain wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

Job Requirements –

• In-depth knowledge of the following technologies:

• PHP

• JavaScript/jQuery

• Git

• SQL

• Considerable knowledge of HTML, CSS, AJAX

• Become knowledgeable in the company’s products

• Punctuality and professionalism

• Continually improve through a personalized internal professional development plan. Not less than 12 hours per year for full-time employment.

• Regular and predictable attendance

Education and Experience –

• May require a bachelor’s degree and/or 4-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area

• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field

• Experience in the following areas preferred but not required:

• Networking, Linux systems administration, and DBA experience

• Experience with other languages (Perl, C, Java, ActionScript, etc.)

• Functional knowledge of PHP frameworks

• Experience with sophisticated educational web content preferred

Physical Demands –

The employee is required to talk, hear and see. Often, this position requires the employee to stand, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, ascend and descend stairs. Also to reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and manipulate keyboard keys. The employee is also required to lift up to 20 lbs. Travel may be required on company business by plane, car or other transportation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 – $115,000.00 per year
