FTE: 0.5fte (working 18.5 hours per week)
Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Main duties and responsibilities
The Student Support Advisor will be a point of contact for students requiring the services of the Dean of Students Office (DoS) with links to the University’s central EDI Office. The postholder will provide specialist guidance, and support to students across the University.
The post holder will supplement the advice and support available and offer a source of specialist emotional and practical support to students following harassment, bullying and discrimination. You will manage various projects to advance EDI including Dignity and Respect Advisors, student positive intervention training, and Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination. The postholder will plan, coordinate, and deliver a calendar of diversity and Student Wellbeing events throughout the year, engaging stakeholders and promoting EDI.
Skills and experience required
The post holder will have proven and demonstratable knowledge of equality legislation and the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace or educational setting. You will have experience of providing specialist, confidential, impartial advice, guidance and support to service users and understanding of safeguarding issues and legal responsibilities.
The role requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to engage professionally with staff, students and external stakeholders, whilst maintaining personal and professional boundaries. You will have expert-user IT skills and be able to deliver and facilitate training and presentations, and work with data, undertaking analysis and producing reports highlighting key issues or trends, and providing recommendations to address the findings.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of a Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) or significant proven experience in relevant field.
