1 vacancy: Finance Analyst – Modelling Lead

There are three Finance Analysts in the Financial Performance and Analysis team, with a specialist focus on three areas; systems and processes; analysis and insight; and financial modelling. These roles strengthen the finance function by providing additional capacity and capability over and above the traditional Business Accounting offering. The analysts will deliver a service on behalf of multiple stakeholders, including finance, the wider business, and our external stakeholders. The team will ensure these stakeholders have the systems and processes in place; analysis and insight required to achieve strong financial performance and provide a financial modelling service for our Finance Business Partners and medium to long term planning.

While each Finance Analyst will lead and focus on their individual specialism there will be shared responsibilities across all the Finance Analyst specialisms to provide support and resilience across the team.

Insights Lead:

• Analysis of corporate financial performance through trend analysis, burn rate reporting, monitoring and analysis of risk reporting and impact.
• Lead on the financial analysis and insight provision to FBPs, wider Finance teams and the wider business as necessary to support routine and ad-hoc information requirements in order to assist in effective forecasting reviews to help strengthen financial performance.
• Use analysis across financial years to identify forecasting trends and highlight areas where financial forecasting needs to be improved.
• Develop the insights and analysis service, identifying new insights, automation of reporting and embed these processes across finance.

Modelling Lead:

• Support the annual review of the medium to long term financial plan, refreshing the financial model for changes to assumptions set by the ELT, and reporting clear outputs and movements against the baseline.
• Work with Finance Business Partners and the wider business to understand financial modelling requirements which will help support decision making and improve financial performance.
• Work with Senior Finance Management, to prepare robust Spending Review submissions to external stakeholders, ensuring these are supported by agreed assumptions set by the ELT.
• Utilise a variety of systems and tools to build robust and auditable models which can be easily maintained and updated.
• Support the development of systems and tools which will deliver SLCs financial modelling requirements.

Systems and Process (Both roles):

• Support the delivery of the system enhancement projects by helping to define requirements, contribute to system design and undertake testing in line with the project plan.
• Overall responsibility for the end-to-end management of the activity based costing model, including associated outputs and reporting.
• Act as an SME in the review of the future of costing and charging in SLC. Play a key role in any subsequent implementation of a replacement system.
• Support the wider finance team in their use of the system and help them to gain a deeper understanding of the system to allow them to better self-serve. E.g. automate reporting
• Conduct reviews on the effectiveness of finance systems and processes, actively seeking improvements, enhancements and solutions to drive efficiencies for the Finance function to improve on the support to the wider business.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

• Student/part membership (or equivalent) of the relevant professional body having progressed to the final stage of qualification, or possession of sufficient experience to fulfil the requirements of the role without membership of the relevant professional body
• Advanced Excel skills
• Excellent analytical and numerical skills
• Practical experience in financial analysis with a track record in using large volumes of complex data to draw conclusions and present analysis in a simple, easy to digest format
• Practical experience in financial modelling techniques
• Experience in the provision of information in support of business decision-making
• Ability to work under own initiative through to delivery of results
• Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to devise and deliver solutions and results based on high-level requirements
• Excellent communication skills to build relationships with a wide range of individuals to manage their expectations
• Excellent written, verbal, organisational and presentation skills
• Experience of using finance systems
• Experience of writing processes and procedures

Desirable:

• Full membership of relevant professional body
• Post qualification experience
• Exposure to Activity Based Costing or similar.
• Experience using Workday or Adaptive Insights
• A track record of implementing change.
