The Social/Emotional Counselor provides social and emotional counseling to students in elementary programs. Utilizing leadership, advocacy and collaboration the Social/Emotional Counselor promotes student success by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs through implementation of a comprehensive counseling program that helps support all students in their personal and social development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

• Maintains caseload of students/families referred for additional support.
• Provides brief assessments to develop an action plan with students and families.
• Proactively develop appropriate relationships with students and families.
• Ability to work with students who are in crisis situations.
• Able to provide guidance and assistance to school leaders regarding how to care for students who are experiencing a crisis.
• Facilitates family intervention meetings with families in crisis or with multi-dimensional needs.
• Planning and/or promoting programs which enhance the social or emotional growth of students.
• Provide counseling to individuals and small groups relative to their concerns.
• Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission and values of Stride and Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy.
• Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
• Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field AND
• Three (3) years of experience in counseling OR
• Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), or Licensed Counselor with Mental Health designation (LADC/MH).
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time
• Ability to clear required background check
