SUMMARY

The Tooling Manufacturing Engineer role will work closely with process engineering, new business development and toolroom teams to optimize the flow of materials, processes and resources to deliver new tooling at the best cost and timing, and to facilitate common-sense repair solutions for existing tooling. This leader will also provide innovative processing solutions, identify/develop new leading-edge manufacturing technology, simplify and standardize the tool manufacturing process, assist with the development of standardized tooling designs and components, and drive cost improvement initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in creating strategic vision for tool manufacturing & repair.
• Deploy transformational change that includes improvements in manufacturing technology, processing methods, elimination of non-value added process steps, optimization of existing manufacturing processes and standardized designs.
• Streamline new tool build process by leveraging core competencies and simplifying business processes.
• Increase speed to market and ensure on-time new product launches by growing new tooling build capacity and throughput, creating collaborative launch processes and standardizing tooling designs.
• Assist with troubleshooting and provide guidance for tooling repairs and modifications.
• Build consistency and simplicity in how tooling processes are documented, executed and sustained by utilizing standard work, structured business processes and ensuring associates are adequately trained.
• Collect, review and analyze tooling repairs and spare part usage data to identify trends and opportunities to eliminate tooling breakdowns, eliminate unnecessary work and permanently fix problems.
• Review, improve and standardize tooling preventative maintenance program by leveraging best practices and assist with transition from time-based to cycle-based system.
• Simplify and standardize spare tooling management systems.
• Align with key stakeholders to create innovative solutions and execution plans to drive completion of continuous improvement activities with urgency.
• Leverage lean concepts and industry benchmarks such as standard work, error proofing, single piece flow, six sigma, kaizen, TPM and Industry 4.0 to simplify the organization and eliminate decisions in all things related to tooling.
• Inspire teams as a positive-minded and strategic-thinking change agent at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline.
• 10+ years in manufacturing engineering.
• 5+ years working closely with tooling, tool manufacturing, and/or CNC equipment preferred.
• Six Sigma Blackbelt certification preferred.
• Advanced understanding of MS Project or other similar resource planning software.
• Understanding of lean concepts and how to apply them to a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to influence others thru good communication skills.
• Knowledge of quality control and part print references (GD&T).
• The ability to manage projects and work in a team project environment.
