Stile Education Hiring for Stile X Editor Job at Melbourne Full Time

Over 400,000 students and 8,000 teachers around the country (and increasingly worldwide) use Stile. That’s almost half of all Australian Year 7-10 students! At Stile, we have a key mission – to help teach scientific literacy skills. From designing investigations to critically evaluating media statements, we want to equip our future citizens with the scientific literacy to confidently participate in public discourse around the ethics and social impacts of scientific issues.

Here at Stile, we create world-class resources for science teachers (whom we call superheroes because… they are). Our resources (think videos, lesson plans, questions, simulations, activities and more!) spark excitement and curiosity in every student. Most recently, we have been listening to teachers’ feedback – they want a resource to help their students study and revise. That’s why we’ve created Stile X.

Stile X is our new physical notebook and revision guide with an accompanying mobile app for students. It’s the ultimate companion to Stile’s online lessons and assists students in taking high-quality handwritten notes, revising and consolidating knowledge, studying for tests and exams, and building their revision skills outside the classroom.

That’s where you come in!

We’re looking for a creative and detail-oriented editor to join our team and help us create kick-ass content! As a Stile X Editor, you’ll use research-based pedagogies to plan, create and edit science content for both the Stile X print product and app.

You’ll bring an enthusiasm for science and enjoy puzzling out how to make the learning process deeper, easier and more engaging.

We’re passionate about giving students the best science education ever and we hope you are too. Ultimately, we’re looking for people who love science and are awesome at communicating it to anyone.

You’ll be someone who lives and breathes science education.

How you’ll spend your time

This role will vary from day-to-day. It will always be interesting but might include:

• Working side-by-side with our ‘dream team’ of other writers, teachers, engineers, simulation designers, illustrators, animators and editors to make the best science resource in the known universe.
• Planning, writing and editing lessons and videos that open students’ worlds to a love of learning and science.
• Coming up with creative solutions to make learning easier and more fun.
• Testing our lessons and support resources with teachers and students in their classrooms.

• You’re constantly thinking about how you could do your job better and accept feedback willingly. But you also aren’t afraid to defend something when you think it’s right.
• You enjoy writing and can follow specific writing conventions. You might even have some experience editing or proofreading educational or scientific material.
• You’re passionate about sharing your love of science with others. It doesn’t matter if you’re a writer, scientist, communicator or educator; what’s most important is that you want to share your passion for science with hundreds of thousands of students across Australia and beyond.
• You have a science background. Having a specialisation in chemistry or physics is advantageous.
• You can communicate complex scientific ideas clearly to a younger audience.

This is a full-time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. We really value collaboration and about two days in the work week are in person in the office but we also really value focus time and this can be done at home or in the office, whatever works for you! During onboarding we want you to get the best experience so the first 4-6 weeks are in person in the office. We’re all about what you achieve, not the hours of the day that you achieve it. Our (awesome) office is located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne CBD.
