At Steve & Kate’s, we put kids in the driver’s seat and staff come along for the ride. Campers choose minute to minute what they do, with whom, and for how long, because kids who learn to make decisions today build the self-confidence they’ll need to wrangle unknowns tomorrow. If you join our team as an Assistant Director, you’ll sharpen your inherent leadership skills and do meaningful work, while getting an immersive experience of creativity and play.

Steve & Kate’s Summer Camp is an 8 to 10 week program, running from June to August. Training for our Assistant Camp Directors will start in April. Our full-time staff will work Monday through Friday with shifts between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM.

The job in a nutshell is to help run all facets of a self-directed camp.

While working alongside one of our year-round Directors responsible for leading each camp, you’ll build relationships with hundreds of parents and children, helping them overcome fears, discover passions and generally find their groove at Steve & Kate’s; you’ll help train, lead and inspire a team; and you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations for your site to keep things running smoothly and safely. We view this role as a training ground and pipeline for Directors, so if you’re interested in a career at Steve & Kate’s, this is a great way to gain valuable experience and get your foot in the door.

• Can you multitask like you’re a Hollywood power agent all while keeping calm, level headed and nice?
• Do you have the stamina to keep up (literally) with 4–12 year old’s bursting with energy and creative potential? And, can you bench press the equivalent of a kindergartner (just kidding – can you lift up to 30lbs.

Requirements:

Virginia

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required
• Must meet one of the following qualifications:

1. Have one of the program director qualifications:

• A graduate degree in child-related field
• An endorsement or bachelor’s degree in a child-related field and one year of experience
• Forty-eight semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit and one year of experience
• Two years of programmatic experience and bachelors degree
• Three years of programmatic experience and high school degree

2. Have an endorsement or bachelors degree in child-related field

3. Have three months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following education backgrounds:

• A one year childhood certificate / at least 30 hours
• A child development credential by an organization
• A teaching diploma from an international or national Montessori organization

4. Have six months of supervised programmatic experience.
