Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellow in Public History
Stetson University invites applicants for a full-time Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in Public History. Specializations in African American History or Atlantic World History, or the history of the African Diaspora are particularly welcome.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek candidates with a PhD in Public History, History, or a related field with a focus on Public History. Applicants with an MA in Public History, History or a related field with post-graduate experience in Public History are welcome to apply. Applicants should have an active scholarly record and experience working with public history institutions and shaping collaborative projects. Â
RESPONSIBILITIES/TEACHING LOAD:Â Â
In keeping with the teacher-scholar model central to the mission of our liberal learning, this position involves both teaching and research. The Fellow will teach up to five courses in the academic year, including the Introduction to Public History; courses in core Public History areas that might include Digital History, Historic Preservation, Oral History or the candidate’s own area of expertise; and a History Practicum in which the Fellow mentors students working collaboratively on a public history project with local institutions. A significant element of this position includes community outreach and work on collaborative public history projects with students and community partners. Administrative responsibilities include building relationships with local and regional institutions in public history.  In addition, fellows are expected to participate in professional development programs through the Brown Center during their residency and enrich our learning community by extending and sharing their expertise as emerging teacher-scholars with faculty across campus and the broader Stetson community.

The History Department at Stetson is a diverse and engaged department with active teacher-scholars, a curriculum covering most areas of the globe and spanning ancient times to the present, a vibrant Public History concentration, and strong community connections. The Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellows Program is the flagship program of the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence, a central resource for promoting faculty vitality and vibrancy to advance learning at Stetson University. The Fellows Program prepares faculty leaders who inspire excellence in learning, teaching, research, and service; in turn, Fellows leave inspired to lead. During their residency, Fellows will develop in their role as a teacher-scholar through participation in professional development programs offered by the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence.Â
THE COLLEGE:Â Â
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and schools. With nineteen academic departments and nine interdisciplinary programs, the College is the liberal arts core of the University; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts. A great strength of the College is its faculty of approximately 140 full-time teacher-scholars. The College offers 31 undergraduate majors and 34 undergraduate minors; six graduate degrees are offered in Education, Counselor Education, and Creative Writing. DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 32,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities. Â
