If so, this opportunity is for you! Step By Step Accounting is looking for an exceptional accountant to join our small but growing team as a Senior Accountant. This role is 90% remote. Instructions on how to apply may be found at the bottom of this page. A resume is required. Applicants MUST be located within a 120 mile radius of the company’s West Fargo, ND headquarters.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: As a Senior Accountant, you will:
1. Lead monthly financial review meetings with business owners
2. Communicate directly with clients and answer their questions in a timely manner
3. Review high quality monthly financial statements in QuickBooks Online
4. Consult with clients to complete projects such as cash flow forecasts, grant/financing applications, decision analysis, etc.
5. Perform financial analytics and make recommendations to improve small businesses
6. Oversee, train, evaluate and lead the Intermediate and Junior Accountants on your team to complete all areas of the accounting function – including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable
7. Support advanced payroll and human resources needs
8. Coordinate with tax preparers to ensure a smooth tax filing process
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
DESIRE TO LEARN, GROW AND MAKE AN IMPACT. An ideal candidate should be constantly working to get better. They should be open to, and actively seek, feedback, and have a can-do attitude. They should have a personal desire to positively impact small businesses and the lives of business owners.
TECH AND BUSINESS SAVVY. You will need to be adept with computers and good at figuring out cutting-edge systems and tools. QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop expertise is required as is Excel experience. Advanced accounting, bookkeeping and business management skills are expected.
CONFIDENT COMMUNICATOR AND TEAM MEMBER. An ideal candidate will have excellent writing, listening, and speaking communication skills to delight, coach, mentor, encourage, support, train, negotiate, and challenge clients and team members. You will be joining a “pod” of accountants who work together to serve their clients, so you must enjoy working with others.
HEART OF A TEACHER. You must have the ability to teach clients with patience and understanding. You must speak the client’s language and never be condescending.

FLEXIBLE HOURS AND GENEROUS VACATION/HOLIDAYS: We expect a typical 40 hours of work per week but utilize “Core Hours” of 9 AM – 3 PM Monday through Friday when everyone should be available. In your first year you will receive 3 weeks of vacation, 48 hours of personal leave and 9.5 days of paid holidays (including a floating holiday for your birthday!).
LOTS OF VARIETY. As our company continues to grow, there will be many opportunities to take on new responsibilities and grow professionally. Your work will stay fresh. You will have a diverse portfolio of 10-20 clients (depending on their size) in a broad range of industries ranging from $300,000 – $2,000,000/year in revenues. Clients use a variety of software and applications and all have different goals and personality types. There will always be tons of opportunities to learn new things. Plus, given the pace of change at our company, we can pretty much guarantee that you will never be bored!
