Position Summary:
A STARS Snow Sports Instructor primarily instructs adaptive skiing and snowboarding to individuals with disabilities in group and individual settings by creating a safe, fun, and effective learning environment. Additional functions include mentoring volunteers and interns, as well as caring for program equipment. Position is either Part-Time or Full-Time (35+ hrs/wk) from approximately 11/22/2022 to 4/02/2023 with the possibility to extend based on reservations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Follows consistent safety procedures and utilizes appropriate safety equipment
•Assist with the set-up and tear-down of daily programs
•Attends STARS training sessions
•Performs student assessments
•Determines adaptive equipment and modifies as necessary for client performance and comfort
•Sets goals and lesson plans according to STARS and PSIA Standards and Policies
•Instructs individual or group lessons using appropriate teaching progressions and exercises
•Documents student progress and maintains accurate records
•Makes recommendations for future lessons.
•Assists with volunteer training
•Assists with STARS special events
•Creates and maintains a friendly, congenial and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests and otheremployees
•Mentor volunteers on core STARS values, customer service and best practices
•Complete administrative workflows necessary to the success of the program
•Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director or other Lead Staff

Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or GED.
•PSIA/AASI Alpine, Nordic or Snowboard Certifications (Highly Preferred)
•One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities. (Preferred)
•One year of experience teaching adaptive downhill snowsports. (Preferred)
•Basic computer knowledge and ability including Word and Excel
•Minimum level 6 skier and/or rider
•Knowledge of a wide variety of disabilities
•Capable of teaching levels 1-6
•College degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, or related field (Preferred)
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to work outside in the winter under varying conditions a majority of the time
•Must be physically able to assist guests, students, or clients with ski or adaptive equipment
•Must be able to lift a minimum of 150 lbs. with assistance
•Must have auditory and visual ability to interact with guests, students, and clients on a daily basis
•Must be able to successfully manage multiple, high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment

•Fast-paced, highly interactive outdoor/office environment with moderate to high noise levels.
