State of Iowa – Executive Branch Hiring for Community Health Consultant at Des Moines, IA Full Time

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Community Access Division strives to connect a variety of programs across legacy DHS and legacy IDPH that all provide direct economic, health, and support programs to Iowans.

In the Wellness & Preventive Health section of the Community Access Division, we help ensure people living in Iowa receive public health services. Working under the supervision of the Oral Health Manager, this position provides oral health program consultation and assistance for local contractors who help people living in Iowa with access to dental care and oral health. In this role, you will be an oral health consultant for I-Smile, the oral health component of the state Maternal and Child Health program, reviewing and approving grant applications, assuring fiscal and contract compliance, providing technical assistance for local public health contractors, developing program policies, monitoring and evaluating program data, assuring quality of services and adherence to regulations and policies, and developing and providing trainings for local contractors and others. The community health consultant also develops educational materials and trainings and mobilizes partnerships with other department programs and state organizations to ensure optimal health for people living in Iowa. Position responsibilities require in-office hours in Des Moines and being present for regular in-person meetings with the oral health team and other documentation of services, data collection, creation of educational materials, training for contractors, and ing program results. The oral health consultant also mobilizes partnerships with other department programs, state organizations, and local public health.

The work location is at 321 East 12th Street, Des Moines, IA. Telework is available, but in-person meetings and in-office days are required for this position in the Des Moines area and at the Lucas State Office Building on the beautiful Capitol Complex. We offer some flexibility in the daily start and end times. The position includes in-state and out-of-state travel at times.

Possession of an active license, as issued by the Iowa Dental Board, to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Iowa

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, a human services or health-oriented field, or education, or nutrition and three years of professional experience in these areas;

OR

Masters degree in nursing, public health or science, a human services or health-oriented field, or education, may be substituted for one year of the required experience;

OR

certification as a paramedic and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a paramedic;

OR

an equivalent or combination of the required education and experience, totaling seven years, will be qualifying.
