Position Overview
Under general supervision, instructs residents in the assigned curriculum area using developmental teaching methods and techniques consistent with current teaching methodology. Prepares and executes diagnostic test instruments geared to each resident’s abilities and needs. Administers testing on a follow-up basis to gauge the rate and scope of progress in maximizing the residents’ potential and meeting the educational and behavioral goals. Sets goals with the resident, administrators and clinical therapist(s) as the result of evaluation and continuing interaction for a basis directing the educational approach and formalizing the individual resident’s plan. Provides developmental, corrective and supportive supervision to residents.
Job Responsibilities
1. Instructs residents in the assigned curriculum area using developmental teaching methods and techniques consistent with current teaching methodology.
2. Using the Core Curriculum Policy, develops curricula for each assigned teaching subject and approximate grade level.
3. Develops examination tools designed to measure each student’s strengths, weaknesses and progress.
4. Provides developmental, corrective and supportive supervision to residents.
5. Develops Curricula for residents.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires possession of a current and valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement in elementary and secondary education (K-12).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires ability to communicate with and instruct adult students of all levels of competence.
Requires ability to relate to students with extreme and profound emotional impairments.
Requires ability to use the English language in preparing and delivering instructions.
Requires ability to evaluate the student to select behavioral objectives to meet the student’s needs and to guide and direct facility staff regarding the necessary training and educational development of a student.
Requires ability to communicate with and instruct students with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
Requires elementary knowledge of and ability to operate a personal computer.
Requires ability to prepare written documentation related to student performance and education.
Requires ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and assigned students.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to therapeutically interact with residents in a 24/7 residential facility for Sexually Violent Persons.
2. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
3. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois law.
Work Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Mon-Fri
