Idaho Transportation Department has exciting opportunities for a forward-thinking, innovative leader to provide direction and guidance as an Engineer Manager 1. This position provides constructive leadership and management within the District 3 Engineering team. We are committed to providing innovative solutions for the design, construction, and maintenance of Idaho’s roadways and these positions will help guide ITD in these endeavors.

• The successful candidate will have at least one year of supervision experience and must have Professional Engineering licensure.

Example of Duties:

• Plan, organize, and review the performance of professional and/or technical staff performing highway engineering work;
• Perform professional engineering and related administrative work involving the research, design, construction, and related activities in highway engineering work;
• Responsible for the daily operational details of professional engineering work involving the supervision of professional engineers and/or technical engineering and related staff;
• Participate in program management with staff and perform related administrative work involving planning, organizing projects, assignments, and the evaluation of staff performance;
• This is the first level of manager for engineering functions, and requires full-time supervision of engineering staff (professional and technical);
• Incumbents must have a high level of technical expertise in materials-related highway engineering and be looked upon as advisors and consultants to management, yet be able to perform the most difficult of engineering assignments common to the materials engineering of highway projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or be eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12;
• Good knowledge of State and local government operations pertaining to a specific engineering discipline.
• Level I knowledge of management practices.
• AND Valid driver’s license.

Experience:

• Supervising staff; interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws pertaining to a specific engineering discipline;
• Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit;
• Writing engineering s and correspondence;
• Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses;
• Making oral presentations to groups relative to the merits of engineering applications.
