STUDENT WELFARE OFFICER

(Permanent, full-time 36 hours per week, 40 weeks all year)

Stanmore College are looking for a Student Welfare Officer to co-ordinate a cross college student welfare service and to act as one of the College’s Safeguarding Officers working under the direction of the Director of Student Services.

The successful candidate will provide specialist advice and guidance to 16-18 learners and adult learners on a range of issues such as finance, housing, and welfare benefits.

Applicants must have a minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics grades A – C.

Salary: Band G, points 21 – 24, £26,624 – £28,664 per annum

JOB SUMMARY: T

To co-ordinate a cross college student welfare service. To act as one of the College safeguarding officers working under the direction of the Director of Student Services.

Main Activities

1. Provide and promote specialist advice and guidance to 16-18 learners and adult learners on a range of issues such as finance, housing, and welfare benefits

2. Maintain strong links with external agencies and specialist organisations and refer students to them when appropriate, to support in financial and welfare related matters. These include, but are not limited to, CAMHS, YOT, children’s services and local schools.

3. Assist learners to apply for financial help from a range of sources including government funding designed to provide financial support to learners, charitable support funds and welfare benefits

4. Be aware of additional support networks within the college and refer students when necessary to specialist staff such as counsellors, Study Coaches and learning support staff

5. Work with the Pastoral Support Manager and Personal Tutors in developing and delivering the tutorial programme

6. Working collaboratively as a member of the Student Services team, actively participating in meetings, training events and providing cover as needed.

7. Co-ordinating a cross college student welfare service on a wide range of practical and personal issues

8. Working with the curriculum team to identify learners who may require support and ensure that they are effectively monitored.

9. Participate in the development and operation of policies and procedures for supporting students and to assist with the delivery of service key performance indicators

10. Acting as the Key Link for the Virtual School, collaborating information and attending PEP meetings.

11. Supporting learners during a disciplinary or learner performance process

12. To act as one of the College safeguarding officers working under the direction of the Director of Student Services.

13. Working under the direction of the Director of Student Services to decide whether to take further action about specific concerns (e.g. refer to local childrens’ safeguarding services); liaise with local childrens’ services over suspected cases of abuse; submit reports to and contribute to the College attendance at child protection conferences if appropriate

14. Contributing to ensuring that appropriate promotion, training and support is provided to all staff. Delivering WRAP training and safeguarding training to staff as required

15. Keeping records of interactions, statistics and reports. Support the development of any tracking systems used to monitor learner progress and achievement and to record any safeguarding concerns eg; ProMonitor and My Concern.

16. Providing guidance to parents, students and staff about obtaining suitable support

17. Alerting the College management and teaching staff to any institutional practices which are causing or aggravating the personal difficulties of students

18. Assisting directly or indirectly in the development of student welfare and support policies e.g. drugs, behaviour, health, etc.

19. Advising the Learning Support Manager and Pastoral Support Manager of changes in legislation or other aspects of the external environment that may impact upon the service provided or offered to students

20. Attending relevant meetings and events including team meetings, open evenings and employer and community liaison events

21. Taking personal responsibility for supporting, promoting and following all College policies in relation to health and safety, equality and diversity and data protection within the scope of the post
