The Senior Policy Analyst will conduct analysis of policies and legislation that advance AFP’s Vision and assist with advocacy efforts as a part of the Stand Together community with a focus on Foundational Education (K-12). Reporting to one of AFP’s Policy Managers, the candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the team to craft analysis and other content related to current legislation, policy proposals, and provide research to support AFP and Stand Together’s policy initiatives within Foundational Education.

Your Responsibilities Include

You will produce analysis and research material to assist in the production of internal and external facing policy products, including but not limited to issue summaries, regulatory comments, issue briefs, advocacy tools, testimony, opinion and commentary, and other material needed to support the organization’s engagement efforts

You will collaborate with state chapters and government affairs teams to help partners understand the impact of state and federal legislation and regulatory policies

You will translate complex issues into talking points and written text for communications and grassroots teams

You will identify real-world opportunities to advance our Vision and provide recommendations for new and existing organization policy positions

Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization

You have 8+ years of experience working in a related field (i.e. public policy analysis, Executive or Legislative Branch position, etc.)

You have knowledge and experience in k-12 education finance and state-based education policy

You’re an effective written and spoken communicator

You’re strong at public policy research and analysis

You’re a problem-solver

You proactively seek and share information with an appropriate sense of urgency

You’re committed to the Vision and Mission of AFP

Standout Candidates May Also Bring

You’ve worked as a Governor’s Education Policy Advisor, in a state Department of Education, or worked in a State Legislature

You have experience drafting state legislative bills

You have experience drafting state administrative rules
