Staffing Advisors of Maryland Hiring for Finance Director – EducareDC #2022-2709 Job at Washington, DC Full Time

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration—and supported by an in-house Fiscal Specialist and an outsourced accounting firm—you will oversee Educare’s outsourced accounting operations, grants administration, financial analyses, development of and cash flow management for our $15 million budget. As Finance Director for Educare DC, you will help ensure young children from under-resourced communities have the best possible chance for success in life. You will oversee financial operations and partner with the executive leadership team in strategic decision-making.

We are a financially strong nonprofit organization with a blend of private and public financial support including federal Head Start/Early Head Start, DC Office of State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Pre-K funding, and other state and federal funding streams. As Finance Director, you will oversee our grants management process including allocations, grant tracking, planning, budgeting, federal reimbursement requests etc. You will also work with director level budget owners to analyze monthly financials, creating budget projections and recommending spending plans for both federal and private grants as needed.

In this role, you will proactively look ahead and develop predictable tracking/reporting that complies with funder requirements, continues our history of clean audits, and supports budget owners to focus their attention on our mission to eliminate the opportunity gap for young children in the District. Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the Finance Department. Directly manage fiscal employees.
• Manage the development of comprehensive federal and non-federal grant spending plans and/or schedules. (e.g., percent spent by specified quarter; cost allocation). Lead the process of planning, budgeting, and tracking federal grants.
• Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual budgeted versus actual department financials.
• Serve as primary lead for the annual organization audit process; liaise with external auditors and the Finance and Audit Committee of the board of directors.
• Coordinate with the outsourced accounting vendor, directors, VP of Programs, and VP of Finance to develop the annual organization budget.
• Manage organization cash flow and forecasting.
• Supervise internal control processes.
• Coordinate with the Director of Development to support the process of planning, budgeting, reporting, and tracking non-federal grants.
• Utilize monthly financials (Temporarily Restricted Net Assets Schedule and Grant Life Report) to track spending and ensure timely use of non-federal grant funds.
• Recommend benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance.
• Coordinate with the outsourced accounting team to ensure federal reimbursement requests are processed in a timely manner.
• Support planning and preparation for all federal monitoring visits and program audits, including responses to funders and compilation of documents.
• Execute special projects for the Finance Department while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in financial management or accounting. Strong GAAP accounting and reporting experience in a nonprofit organization or from public accounting is a plus.
• Experience with internal controls. (Working with outside auditors is a plus.)
• Proven knowledge and experience in accounting and/or financial reporting software as well as Excel; thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and email systems. Ability to document, monitor, and track information, and develop reports.
