About the Role
This is a great opportunity for an experienced and innovative mental health nurse to join the mental health clinical education team at St Vincent’s. The Nurse Educator will be responsible for providing clinical education and mentorship to nursing staff across SVMH service, working in collaboration with senior staff to build a skilled workforce.
- Contribute to the on-going development of nursing education and practice by having input to internal and external committees and working parties.
- Facilitate educational and supervisory opportunities to all levels of staff across all areas of the service including: undergraduates, graduates, post-graduates, RPN2’s and beyond.
- Demonstrated ability to provide training and education to clinicians of all levels and disciplines.
- Coordinate the education program in the community clinics
- Deliver education to community staff on various topics according to clinical needs
- Provide workshops on developing clinicians in developing particular skills such as: enhanced management plans, safety plans
Classifications for this position will range from Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 NP75 – NP77 ($107,577 – $115,850 per annum pro rata)
Your Contribution
- Degree or postgraduate diploma in psychiatric/mental health nursing
- A current driver’s licenced
- Completed or willing to work towards a higher degree in nursing or relevant area
- Completed, undertaking or willing to work towards a Certificate 4 Training and Assessment or equivalent
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Division 1
- Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership of mental health service provision
- Ability to design, deliver and evaluate training programs and supervision in line with the recovery-oriented practice
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clinical colleagues and consumers/carers and to work co-operatively in a team environment
- Ability to reliably organise, manage and analyse different forms of data using computer software
- Demonstrated ability to produce agreed outcomes in complex healthcare services
- Ideally have 4-5 years’ experience in a community setting
- Demonstrated skills in full mental health assessments, drug and alcohol, advanced treatment planning, and project/portfolio management experience

About the Mental Health Department
St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) provides high quality, recovery-oriented services across an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The service utilises the Recovery Oriented Framework for mental health services which is embedded across all parts of the service.
The adult mental health service comprises of a 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent’s Hospital site, Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), North Fitzroy PARC, community mental health services Hawthorn and Clarendon, each with niche care provision. There is also state-wide services such as NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Advisory Service, Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health.
