Job Description

Effectively underwrite Conventional, FHA, VA, & USDA and Construction to Perm files to comply with Agency, Investor, & 1st Signature Lending’s internal guidelines, policies, and procedures.

• Effectively communicate with borrowers, loan officers, closers, processors and compliance personnel.
• Meet all required deadlines on the loans in the pipeline.
• Maintain daily workflow prioritization and work loans accordingly.
• Leadership and Training- Assist the management team in training new and current staff members in regards to processing/underwriting guidelines, quality control, processes and procedures.
• Demonstrate leadership skills as a team player by providing superior customer service, being flexible and approachable.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of agency guidelines, as well as policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate ability to review and calculate ALL income types, including complicated tax returns. *Demonstrate ability to review and analyze borrower’s income stability, assets, appraisal, prelim, credit and all other documentation as required.
• Insure quality is uncompromised and that all documentation provided is thoroughly analyzed and meets guidelines.
• Identify red flags within files and ensure each red flag is addressed prior to approval/closing.
• Maintain minimum file requirements as well as condition turn-times as set forth by management.
• Maintain communication with Processors/loan Officers to ensure all questions are answered in a timely manner.
• Review conditions (including suspense, reworks and decline overturns) within the required turn times.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state lending regulations.
• Provide a second layer of quality control to ensure that the liability taken on by 1st Signature Lending will not result in a non-salable or uninsurable loan.
• Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Total recent work experience that includes four or more years as an Underwriter for Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA and Construction to Perm loans
• DE-certified; endorsements including Direct, VA, Auto and SAR/LAPP; must have current certifications for any assigned region that requires a state-specific license to underwrite loans.
• Expert level knowledge of overall mortgage lending processes, including underwriting, funding and loan processing.
• Expert level knowledge of valid documentation related to the processing consumer mortgage applications (e.g., tax returns, financial statements and records, verification of income and deposits, etc.).
• Sound judgment, ability to think critically, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment; strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements related to consumer mortgage lending, processes and controls.
• Prior experience using internal data entry systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF/Document Retention programs
• Proven recent track record in mortgage underwriting.
• Experience with Encompass strongly preferred.* Closing, Post-Closing, & Operations Management preferable, but not required.
• Compliance experience a plus (including, but not limited to TILA, RESPA, ECOA, TRID).
• Professional in appearance and conduct.* Capacity to attend work consistently and on time.
