About the School:
St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School is an independent co-educational school with campuses in
Warragul and Traralgon. The Warragul Campus is a K-12 school situated 100km to the east of
Melbourne and the Traralgon Campus is situated 175 km east of Melbourne and is a K-10
school, expanding to Year 12 by 2027.
Primary Purpose:
The Director of the Early Learning Centre (ELC) is responsible for the day to day running of all
ELC programs. These programs operate within the Early Years Learning and Development
Framework. The positive promotion of the ELC and the delivery of quality programs inspired by
the Reggio Emilia philosophy (promoting a strong image of the child, with staff, parents and the
St Paul’s community) will be fundamental to this position.
Position in Context:
The Director of the ELC is responsible to the Head of Junior School, who in turn reports directly
to the Deputy Principal.
It is the responsibility of the Director of the ELC to oversee all learning and teaching programs,
communicate with all parents of Early Learning Centre students, in relation to any concerns or
matters relating to their child. The Director of the ELC is also responsible, in conjunction with
the Head of Junior School and ELC Compliance Officer, for managing all matters of policy and
compliance for the centre. The Director of the ELC will also be expected to promote and
publicise Early Learning Centre special events, contribute to Open Mornings and information
sessions and identify any opportunities to further attract enrolments to the school. The Director
of the ELC will demonstrate an awareness of current curriculum trends in early years and have
strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build rapport and interest with both
adults and young children.
The Director of the ELC is responsible for any Early Learning Centre’s staffing and student
issues within all groups in the first instance and is required to exercise judgment in
recommending to the Head of Junior School an appropriate and effective process for dealing
with day-to-day issues. Further, it is the responsibility of the Director of the ELC to communicate
urgently with the Head of Junior School and the Deputy Principal, in relation to any serious
concerns or matters relating to a student or staff member. The incumbent is regarded as a
specialist in the field of Early Learning and will be required to provide current, prompt and
accurate advice on a wide range of educational issues affecting early learning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
In addition, the Director of the Early Learning Centre will be expected to:
• Arrange transition for students into the ELC
- Contribute to the well-being of every student
- Ensure active, effective, and efficient supervision and the safety of all children
- Create and/or monitor the development of ELC students’ personal portfolios
- Monitor students’ uniform and appearance
- Prepare students for transition from ELC to Prep and develop a
- Liaise closely with the Preschool Field Officer when a ‘child at risk’ has been identified.
• Consult with the Enrolments Officer to conduct tours and interviews
- Organise and speak at any ELC special evenings/events
- Provide an opportunity for parent/teacher interviews during Terms 1 and 3
- Provide regular feedback to parents as to their child’s learning and development
- Prepare written transition reports for parents during Term 4
- Manage parent concerns and enquiries
- Attend parent functions relevant to the ELC or Junior School
- Keep ELC parents informed of events (in writing or by speaking at functions)
- Ensure present and future ELC parents are informed on all relevant matters
POSITION DESCRIPTION

- Ensure all parent volunteers meet the current working with children registration
requirements
• Management and support all ELC educators in conjunction with Head of Junior School
- Chair regular staff meetings with the ELC team to co-ordinate effective planning and
- Assign Certified Educational Leader and Certified Nominated Supervisors roles and
- Involvement in the recruitment of new ELC staff
- Act as an excellent role model to ELC staff and assist with induction and mentoring of
new ELC staff
• Encourage, support and counsel ELC staff as required and participate in the staff
- Work with Prep teachers on the transition of students from the ELC to Prep
- Ensure that all staff are aware of all School policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
- Consult with staff who are not meeting performance expectations and counsel
- Escalate any staff performance issues to Head of Junior School and Human Resources
- Liaise with HR in regard to staff employment and employment contracts
• Work as the person in charge of the Centre, conducting day-to-day operations
- Ensure that all legislated standards are adhered to in accordance with relevant
- Create Information packs and interview new families to the ELC
- Assist with allocation of staff and students to classes/programs
- Produce semester timetables and duty arrangements in consultation with the Deputy
- Manage the approved ELC budget, keep records of expenditure and be responsible for
- Coordinate casual relief staff
- Ensure all fittings, furnishings, equipment, and resources are maintained in a safe and
hygienic condition, report any safety concerns via the Maintenance Request system
immediately
- Create School Readiness funding plans and submit to the Department via KIMS.
Gather research evidence to support school readiness funding plans and expectations
Liaise with companies to provide a quote for the delivery of menu items selected.
Liaise with organisations to deliver programs onsite, remotely or via online platforms
Manage SRF budget as required
- Complete Emergency Management Plan and upload to KIMS
- Complete Quality Improvement Plan
- Log IT issues via the IT Department
- Check supervision of students by staff on duty
- Meet regularly with the Head of Junior School to report on all aspects of the ELC
- Liaise with Allied Health professionals as required
- Liaise with Junior School staff in the areas of Performing Arts, Visual Art, PE, Christian
- Attend regular Professional Development meetings
- Conduct regular audit/review of all programs and activities completed
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Upload services data, including children and family data, staff data onto Kindergarten
Information Management system prior to mid-March (census week) and again in
August. Add/remove children throughout the year
- Update student attendance daily on Synergy and report this information to the
Department each term
- Complete the weekly attendance of vulnerable children survey
- Be responsible for referring families to NDIS
- Support the inclusion of early childhood student teachers
- Liaise with the local Koorie Engagement Support Officer (KESO)/Kindergarten
- Liaise weekly with the ELC Compliance Officer to ensure compliance is up-to-date and
- Liaise with administration staff to ensure all health and other important documents
relating to ELC students are uploaded on Synergetic and kept up to date.
• Organise and attend special events as required
- Assist and be actively involved with Information Sessions, Open Days, Discovery Day
- Discuss potential opportunities and ideas with Marketing Department and Admissions
- Speak at both internal and external School events as required (i.e., orientation,
- Oversee all printed matter pertaining to the ELC in conjunction with the Head of
- Provide regularly articles for the Marketing Department for submission into the local
- Provide reports/articles for inclusion in the Junior School Newsletter and
- Write items for Junior School and Whole School publications (Perspectives
Magazine)

Qualifications
- Appropriate Early Childhood professional qualifications
- Registered with the Victorian Institute of Teachers (VIT)
- Able to supply a current (no less than 6 months old) Police Check
- Level Il First Aid — including Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management (Asthma in
Childcare) approved by DEECD for Early Childhood Settings (or the ability to obtain
this) Fit and Proper Person’s Determination

St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School takes the issue of Child Protection very seriously. The
following is an outline of the responsibilities for Teachers at the School with regard to Child
Protection.
- Teachers are responsible for understanding and applying the School’s child safety
policies and procedures including identifying and addressing risks, identifying child abuse
indicators, management of disclosures, reporting including mandatory reporting, and
complying with the School’s staff student boundaries.
- Teachers must also be aware of issues relating to Aboriginal, cultural and linguistic
diversity or disability, among students with whom they will have direct contact, and in
addressing child protection teaching and disclosures.
- Teachers must complete the St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School Child Protection
Training within the first two weeks of employment at the School.
Conditions of Employment
This is a 3-year position of responsibility appointment with general conditions being covered
by the existing St Paul’s Anglican School Agreement 2018. The role is subject to a six-month
probationary period.
