Middle School Math Teacher

The Middle School Math Teacher is responsible for facilitating math instruction through the Summit Learning Platform for our middle school students (grades 6-8). This includes supporting students who need extra support understanding key math concepts as well as providing and supporting enrichment opportunities for advanced math students.

Overview:
Our middle school Learning Studio Teacher will co-teach in a collaborative, innovative, personalized learning model of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students combined. Their essential responsibility is to develop creative learning opportunities for student’s academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth while being a champion for St. John’s unique personalized learning model, which prioritizes the teacher as a mentor.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and facilitate math instruction for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, across a range of student aptitudes, using the Summit Learning Platform.
• Seamlessly switch between whole class, small group, or one-on-one instruction as needed for personalizing math education for individual students.
• Provide enrichment support for student working beyond grade-level math expectations, as well as fundamentals support for students who are behind grade level standards.
• Work collaboratively with staff and student learners to build authentic personalized learning experiences that encourage students’ whole-person growth: academically, socially, interpersonally, and spiritually.
• Model and implement research-based effective instructional strategies for personalized learning.
• Use data (through Summit) to identify levels of student performance and development areas on an individual and group level.
• Consistently evaluate students’ academic and social-emotional needs and proactively plan growth opportunities for individual students and the classroom as a whole.
• Model real-life success skills like communication, self-awareness, and decision-making.
• Strive for excellent and effective collaboration with other teachers and leadership; works effectively and cooperatively with others in a team environment.
• Actively develop positive parent-teacher relationships and promote parent-teacher partnerships.
• Support the partnership of St. John and Pathfinder Church by regularly participating in church and staff events and combined professional development opportunities.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

• Strong Christian values; a desire to share God’s love with children.
• Bachelor’s degree required.Current state teaching certification in secondary, or elementary. Math specialty, preferred but not required.
• Ability to evaluate students’ needs through data interpretation, observation, and personal interaction.
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with empathy, clarity, and respect to students, parents, coworkers, and leaders.

Work Schedule:
10 month, part-time work schedule Monday through Friday following the 2022-2023 school calendar.
12-24 hours per week, broken into half days. Some flexibility in which days of the week.
