We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the HR Medical Workforce Team as the Appraisal Revalidation & Governance Lead.
This is a new post which is integral to supporting the Responsible Officer (RO) and Clinical Appraisal Lead (CAL) in the delivery of their duties to include the implementation and embedding of Medical Appraisal Revalidation & Governance for the Trust medical workforce. To include;
The post holder will be responsible for the end to end support of doctors and dentists on an individual basis in the appraisal & revalidation process. The post holder will work closely with the Medical Revalidation & Appraisal Officer (MARO) to ensure the development of robust systems and processes to support the equitable and consistent robust management of medical staff appraisal, revalidation and governance across the Trust.
The post holder will also work closely with the Fitness to Practice Governance Lead providing an element of cross cover when and as required.
The post holder will assist the RO in the development of a process and system to manage the review of clinical governance concerns raised through for e.g. Datix, SUI. Working closely with the Fitness to Practice Lead.

Main duties of the job
To manage and ensure the smooth running of all supporting aspects of the appraisal and revalidation process for Trust medical staff. Ensuring that all doctors with a prescribed connection to the Trust are in scope.
To manage the Trust-wide application and implementation of the medical appraisal and revalidation process , and its related policies and procedures on a day to day basis and to provide Trust medical staff with ongoing day to day advice across a range of issues, ensuring consistency.
Together with the Clinical Appraisal Lead manage the quality assurance process for medical appraisal and revalidation. To do this by conducting an individual review of completed appraisals in line with national guidance to ensure that all elements of the process have been complied with from the perspective of the doctor and the appraiser.
The post-holder will co-lead with the Clinical Appraisal Lead on the development of activities to support the education, training and mentoring of appraisers. To include the facilitation and delivery of workshops, provide user updates etc.
Guide and support the Medical Revalidation & Appraisal Officer/Administrator in the delegation of their roles.
To support the RO and Clinical Appraisal Lead in ensuring that appraisals are completed within timescales, meeting with medical staff to discuss any concerns regarding delayed appraisals.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain Professional Registration with CIPD.
Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Develop and implement project plans for Medical Revalidation, Appraisal and Governance including change management processes across the Trusts medical & dental workforce.
Develop systems and processes to ensure Medical Revalidation, Appraisal and Governance is continually embedded into the organisation.
Recommend courses of action for implementation of robust and fit for purpose systems and processes to support Medical Revalidation, Appraisal & Governance and ensure actions are completed by all stakeholders.
GOVERNANCE, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Develop and maintain a Medical Revalidation, Appraisal risk assurance framework.
Develop policies and processes to support Medical Revalidation, Appraisal for the medical workforce.
Ensure the Trusts Medical Revalidation policies, systems and processes meet national audit standards.
Undertake annual self-assessment against national audit standards and support external audits of the Trusts Medical Revalidation, Appraisal policies, systems and processes.
COMMUNICATION
Ensure effective communication mechanisms are in place so the whole of the medical & dental workforce with a prescribed connection to the Trust and key stakeholders are kept informed with regard to Medical Revalidation. Appraisals and all related HR issues including briefing sessions and the development of an intranet page/newsletter.
Maintain regular communication with the Responsible Officer about matters relating to medical workforce governance.
Develop and maintain effective networking by attending Medical Revalidation meetings across the North West and national network, establishing effective working relationships with Medical Revalidation, Appraisal leads from other Trusts and the GMC.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
To maintain a thorough knowledge of the appropriate legislation, policies, guidelines and working practices relating to medical appraisal and revalidation, governance and to anticipate and react to changes in guidance or legislation.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the Appraisal and Revalidation Officer (Band 4) and Administrator (Band 3) ensuring that they have objectives, personal development plan and an annual appraisal.
Support the continuous professional development of junior staff within the team.

CIPD Level 5 or working towards it
Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD)
