Instructional Management

• Focused on the overall delivery of education to students. While a professional in this position will work closely with teachers and other staff members in developing plans and curriculum, there is typically not any staff supervision required.

• Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence and as assigned.

• Provides instructional leadership to the school. Participates in development and evaluation of educational programs with the Principal and leadership team.

• Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

• Participate in school leadership meetings and training to improve administrative skills; maintains current knowledge of the district’s adopted curriculum.

• Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.

Collaborates with the Principal on the following:

• Supports classroom instruction and student learning:

• Assists teachers in assigned classrooms in the use of assessment data to guide instruction.

• Helps teachers within assigned classrooms develop and implement classroom-based, appropriate interventions for behavior management and social emotional learning.

• Conducts classroom or pull-out instruction for direct learning by students.

• Assists with the design and implementation of accommodations and modifications in assigned classroom settings.

• Mentors Teachers within assigned classrooms:

• Coaches and supports assigned classroom teachers.

• Demonstrates effective intervention and teaching strategies for assigned classroom teachers.

• Informs the Principal when intervention or corrective action is needed for assigned teachers.

• Assists with planning and providing staff development.

• Assists with staff and family communication.

• Assists with administration of school policies regarding student conduct and discipline.

• Develops and implements Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and services for the school community.

Provides Support for Special Education Programming:

• Supports the structure and organization of assigned classrooms to support student growth.

• Serves indirect and direct IEP special education minutes for assigned students.

• Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

• Serves as District Representative for due process meetings as assigned by the Special Education Director.

• Assist principal with development and progress on annual campus performance objectives and site-based decision making committee.

• Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives.

Personnel Management

• Assists Principal with supervision and evaluates the performance of designated certificated and/or classified personnel; assigns duties to faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives; assists with the recruiting, interviewing, and selection of new faculty and staff.

• Provides direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and student programs and services; participates in formal and informal classroom visitations and observations; provides recommendations and suggestions for improvement as appropriate.

• Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.

• Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.

• Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.

Student Management

• Works closely with administration and staff in General and Special Education to promote a positive school climate that sets and supports high expectations for all student behavior.

• Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students.

• Assists Principal with development and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned.

• Monitors and organizes attendance functions; prepares letters, calls parents, and attends meetings as needed, regarding absent or tardy students; provides leadership for attendance improvement efforts

• Participates as needed in Individual Educational Plan meetings and Team Meetings.

Behavior Management

• Supports programming that fosters social and emotional skill development.

• Administers appropriate discipline, using restorative practices as a framework for problem-solving and decision-making.

• Provides guidance to children as they develop their understanding of school expectations.

• Communicates regularly with parents and teachers regarding behavior and discipline.

• Assists and guides teachers in positive behavior management.

• Responds to classroom student behavioral issues and other student emergencies; coordinates appropriate solutions for behavioral infractions.

• Supervises and manages students, including passing times, arrival & dismissal, lunch/recess, assemblies and special events.

• Coordinates with and supports the Operations Department to create and enforce bus behavior policies for students and families to ensure student transportation safety.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Current Special Education or General Education license by the State of Minnesota

• Masters degree in the field of education

• Excellent oral, written, spoken communication skills with ability to interact well with staff, students, parents.

• Detail oriented, multi-task oriented and flexible.

• Professional demeanor and appearance with a positive attitude and a sense of humor.

• Self-motivated, proactive, accountable and resourceful in the completion of work assignments.

• Ability to plan and organize work successfully with limited supervision.

• Expertise with the following computer applications: Mac equipment, classroom applications and software, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.

• Ability to maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience preferred in Special Education and General Education teaching or leadership.

• Administrative license preferred.
