Main Purpose of the Team

The Global Data team’s purpose is to transform Specsavers into a data-driven business. Our vision is for everyone at Specsavers to be able to create tangible value from data. We deliver high quality data products, including machine learning models, reports & dashboards, tools, and training to support business areas including supply chain, marketing, finance, audiology, optical clinical, and our store colleagues.

The Hubs within Global Data develops data products that underpin the leadership’s annual plans and longer-term goals, whilst championing and driving forward our data transformation strategy.

As a product owner within the Hub you will be responsible for delivering a range of data products that align to the goals of the Data Exec Forum and our data transformation strategy.

Main Purpose of the Role

• Lead a POD (including business stakeholders) accountable for delivering data products in a way that aligns to the goals of the Data Exec Forum and our data transformation strategy
• Champion agile working, delivering incremental value quickly and iterating based on user feedback.
• Build close relationships with stakeholders and manage expectations.
• Measure and report on product performance and adoption, ensuring feedback is incorporated into product development.
• Be the voice of the customer; ensure that the user needs for our products are understood and met so that we are delivering clear value.
• Provide active, regular, informative, and clear communication with the business about Core team activities and be an advocate and evangelist for the Global Data Team.
• Be accountable for the ongoing development of product roadmap(s) and planning assets
• Propose a prioritised list of all demands through assessing value and size with stakeholders for review in the Data Exec Forum. Proactively identify new work streams to create additional benefits across the organisation.

Experience

• Product Management/Owner experience, with proven ability of leading teams to deliver complex software in an agile environment.
• Proven ability to work in a decentralized environment running a cross functional delivery group with dependencies on multiple, diverse functions within the business eg. IT, marketing, finance, supply chain.
• Brilliant communicator, able to confidently engage and inspire stakeholders and colleagues at all levels to generate commitment to goals and create engagement.
• Ability to distil complex ideas into concise written and verbal descriptions that are easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Skilled at stakeholder management, with the ability to manage a wide range of global stakeholders with varying objectives. You must be able to find resolutions, build trust and ask appropriate/ challenging questions to get to the heart of the business requirements and drive tangible benefits.
• Ability to prioritise, with assistance from the delivery team and business stakeholders as appropriate.
• A person who cares about the people with whom they work and their clients, approaching each with integrity and honesty.
• Knowledge of data analytics/data science, data management and data quality principles.
• Positive work attitude, talented at inspiring, enthusing and influencing to create change.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and workshops to drive action.
• Fast learner, with an interest in learning more about all aspects of data management and practices.

Desirable:

• Experience in a similar retail environment.
• Adept and passionate about learning and teaching agile best practices.
• Knowledge of lean design and automated testing.
• Technical data skills including Power BI or other visualisation tools, SQL, Python.
