The Team / The Business: You will report to the Analytical Manager, Financial Institutions, Sovereign and International Public Finance and be working closely with highly experienced industry specialists.
You will join a very collegial and professional team of analysts that work on credits across the Australia/New Zealand (ANZ) and Pacific region. We are looking for someone who can get up to speed quickly. Associates are a key part of the success of the department and make meaningful contributions every day. You will initially focus on New Zealand local council ratings, with the opportunity to broaden your expertise into universities, social housing providers, state governments, sovereign governments, and other asset classes as you develop your career.
The Role: You will act in an analytical position covering a portfolio of New Zealand local governments and other public sector credits such as universities and social housing providers. As a primary analyst for credits in the Sovereign & International Public Finance team, you will not only perform analytical work and write reports, but also demonstrate your analytical insight to internal and external audiences in an international working environment. The role may include exposure to Australian states and sovereign ratings.
Your Skills: Bachelor degree is required, and a Masters or CFA is preferable. You must have a good understanding of the government sector or a back
ground in economics/credit analysis.

Responsibilities:
Work alongside senior analysts to maintain a portfolio of credit ratings initially focusing on New Zealand local councils, but with opportunities to broaden your expertise into other asset classes such as universities, social housing providers, state governments, and sovereigns, over time.
Collect and critically analyze economic, financial, and budget information.
Maintain complex spreadsheets, databases, and cash flow models.
Meet and confidently interact with mayors, councillors, and senior managers of government organizations such as CEOs and CFOs.
Work closely with senior analysts to prepare materials for rating committees and publications to disseminate our ratings on a timely basis.
Demonstrate service excellence when dealing with external and internal stakeholders.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor degree with studies in economics, public policy, finance, or similar fields.
3-5 years of work experience in government, financial services, credit analysis or a related field.
A demonstrated interest in the government sector and how it operates.
Sound knowledge of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts.
Proficiency in Excel and ability to manipulate large datasets, cash flow and credit models.
Strong computer skills, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients.
Strong work ethic and capacity to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work to deadlines and to multitask.
Familiarity with third-party data providers (such as Bloomberg) and economic statistic databases is beneficial.
Pursuing CFA designation or Masters in Economics/Public Policy/Finance or similar fields is desirable, but not essential.
Domestic and international travel will be required.
