Southwire Job Description


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare mechanical and or electrical designs for assigned products and projects.
  • Ability to create all drawings, models and 3D printed models for assigned products
  • Engineering ownership of assigned products to insure they are designed to meet all industry codes and standards to include NEC/NFPA, NEMA, UL, CSA, IEC, CEC, SAE, Prop 65
  • Ensure all engineering processes and protocols are followed for all assigned design projects to include DVP&R, DFMEA,, design reviews, FAIR’s, ECR and PRAP’s.
  • Create design specifications per Program Manager and Project Manager requests.
  • Work closely with other product stakeholders to sustain the product through its lifecycle. This would include sourcing, operations, quality, product management, project management and sales.
  • Create prototypes for testing and evaluation
  • Coordinate engineering and PRAP builds with operations engineer and operations manager.
  • Create BOM’s and Costed BOM’s
  • Design tooling required to manufacture and/or procure components
  • Creation, tracking and completion of ECN’s in accordance with ECR’s

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering field required
  • Previous experience working as a product engineer preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Solidworks, CAD, AutoCAD, and CAM software.
  • In-depth knowledge of Electrical codes and wiring diagrams
  • Verifiable experience with SAP or similar ERP programs.
  • Background with use ISO and engineering repository software
  • Experience with 3D printing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Creative and passionate about creating solutions to customer problems
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Able to work in seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time
  • MOL/VAVE Product engineers will be able to create 2D drawing from 3D models & ability and experience in creating drawings/models from actual parts.
  • Capable of creating and using .stp files for production
  • Must be able to travel to Southwire manufacturing facilities and contract manufacturers approx. 30%
