Position Summary: *The Assistant Program Director, a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) with a doctoral degree, assists the Program Director with the administrative and daily operations of the nurse anesthesia program. The Assistant Program Director reports directly to the Program Director and works collaboratively to ensure programmatic compliance with the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Assistant Program Director is experientially qualified to assume the role of Program Director in his or her absence. The role of Assistant Program Director also includes the duties of Director of Clinical Education, who assumes primary responsibility for the clinical curriculum. This is a 12-month, full time faculty appointment.

This role is remote with travel required as needed.

Qualifications: *

• Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program
• Doctoral degree in nursing, nurse anesthesia or related field from an accredited institution of higher education
• Active certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
• Unencumbered licensure as a registered professional nurse
• Active clinical nurse anesthesia practice up to one day per week
• Experience with academic education, preferably within a nurse anesthesia program, including administration, curriculum development, evaluation, and instruction
• Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in planning, leading, and implementing nurse anesthesia programmatic activities
• Active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
• Proficiency with applicable technology and software programs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the Program Director with the administrative and daily operations of the SNAP at IWU
• Collaborates with the Program Director to ensure compliance with COA and CCNE program accreditation standards
• Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty to define, develop and implement the nurse anesthesia core curriculum
• Participate in team teaching the nurse anesthesia core curriculum
• Collaborates with the Program Director and faculty to maintain continuous program evaluation guided by the SNAP continuous evaluation plan
• Participate in program governance and serve as chair or member on all SNAP committees
• Participate in the SNAP student recruitment and admissions process
• Attend all required IWU’s committee activities
• Promote a climate of collegiality and teamwork throughout the program
• Personally, exemplifies and promote ethical and professional standards for individual and organizational behavior and decision-making
• Represents SNAP to external audiences and key stakeholders at appropriate local, state, and national professional level
• Other duties or special projects as needed or assigned by the Program Director

Director of Clinical Education:

• Assumes primary responsibility for the clinical curriculum
• Serve as the program liaison to establish, strengthen, and maintain program affiliation with clinical partners through frequent communication and onsite clinical site visitations
• Serve as Chair of the Clinical Coordinators Committee
• Assign students to clinical sites to attain a robust clinical experience that enables students to achieve or exceed the COA required clinical case experiences for graduation
• Implement and assess the student clinical evaluation process
• Review the student’s formative clinical evaluations and complete the end of quarter

summative evaluation

• Serve as the clinical adviser and provide informal support or a structured remediation process to facilitate student success in the curriculum practicum courses
• Serve as a role model for clinical excellence
