Somerset House Trust Hiring for Finance Manager Job at London, England Full Time

Somerset House Trust are seeking a qualified Finance Manager to deliver positive financial and charitable outcomes for the Trust providing high-quality management information, analysis, insights and influencing key decisions. You will ensure robust and timely financial information is available to enable sound financial management and inform and drive high quality decisions.

This role requires excellent relationship building across the Trust, partnering with all departments, in particular the Estates, Residents, Exhibitions and Events teams.

Key responsibilities

1. Management Accounting and Reporting

• Deliver timely (5-day close), accurate and useful management accounts, enabling department heads to manage performance and providing clarity on performance of Trust as a whole
• Complete project and balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis, as part of the management accounts process
• Improve reporting, monitoring and reconciliation of restricted funds
• Work with the Business Services Manager to develop the finance system, Access Dimensions, to automate and improve management reporting and project costing

2. Planning, Analysis & Decision Support

• Provide useful and insightful management information to departments and work with them to ensure forecasts, risks and opportunities are captured and actioned
• Financial modelling and sensitivity analysis to inform decision making, any other ad hoc reporting and analysis as required
• Take the lead in maintaining and delivering accurate and robust reforecasts and budgets to tight deadlines ahead of key meetings, including responsibility for key departments
• Work with department heads & COO to develop KPIs and integrate with financial reporting
• Produce professional presentations and board packs with clear and actionable insights on performance
• Enhance cashflow forecasting and integration into other routine processes

3. Other responsibilities

• Manage, develop and mentor the Management Accountant/s
• Provide financial information to support grant applications and project reviews
• Undertake work required for the annual statutory accounts and audit , including analytical reviews
• Shared responsibility for checking the fortnightly casual staff payroll and BACS runs, ahead of release by a member of the Executive team.
• Build and maintain excellent relationships and levels of customer service across the Trust
• Carry out other reasonable duties, in line with scope of the role

The time spent in each area is broadly 45% management accounting & reporting, 45% planning, analysis & decision support at 10% ‘other’, although this will vary from month to month.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who has:

• An accountancy qualification – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• Significant experience in both financial & management accounting and commercial finance, ideally across both commercial and not-for-profit sectors
• Business partnering experience
• Experience of managing complex spreadsheets, analysing data and turning into insight
• Experience with accounting software packages and databases, with understanding of how to record complex transactions and extract data for reporting and analysis (preferably with experience of Access Dimensions and related reporting tools)
• Advanced analytical skills with ability to convert to high quality visuals and narratives
• Strong communication skills, with ability to deliver financial information simply and effectively to stakeholders at all levels
