SOME, Inc Hiring for Education Program Assistant – Part Time at Remote Full Time

SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. SOME’s affordable housing for families offers safe, dignified, and affordable apartments to families experiencing homelessness and/or poverty.
SOME’s family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Children living in our family services programs attend SOME Place for Kids, after-school tutoring, and an enrichment program that supports their educational and social development needs.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking part-time after-school Education Program Assistant for our Family Services Department. We have positions in NW, NE, & SE Washington, DC.
**College students majoring in elementary/secondary education is a PLUS!**
Position Description: The Education Program Assistant provides assistance for youth programming and educational activities for children (approx. ages 5-12) in Family Housing.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 4:00pm – 8:00pm (20 hours/week)
Covid-19 Considerations: SOME (So Others Might Eat) currently has a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy. All employees are required to have completed the Covid-19 vaccination prior to hiring. Submission of Covid-19 Vaccination Card is required.
Qualifications:
Required: HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to children. CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to at-risk students and low-income families; Valid Driver’s License.

• Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Expected Contributions: Youth Programming

• Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after school program (approx. ages 5-12)
• Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs
• Assist in developing communications to promote programs
• Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc.
• Purchase supplies, as needed
• Assist in summer programs, as needed
• Assist with tutoring activities for children
• Assist volunteers in learning program activities
• Develop monthly volunteer reports
• Develop monthly activities calendar
• Assist with administrative issues, as needed
