Photovoltaics has been identified as a key technology in the necessary transition away from fossil-combustion-based energy sources. Perovskite solar cells have received tremendous attention in recent years due to their unprecedented sprint in power conversion efficiency and ease of processing. Despite great success, some challenges still remain to be addressed to facilitate the commercialization of this exciting technology. Amongst them, the use of low-cost deposition methods alongside confirmed long-term operational stability of devices is critical for market entry.

Solaires is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer for its Research & Development team reporting to the Research Manager. Solaires is headquartered in Victoria, however, this is a remote position, candidates can be anywhere in British Columbia.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Building up state-of-the-art laboratory for development and scale-up of flexible and rigid perovskite solar cells

• Define and establish test protocols for Solaires for perovskite devices working with project leads to design suitable architectures for perovskite solar cells and modules.

• Evaluate test outcome by material analysis, optical, and electrical characterization of fabricated perovskite solar devices

• Interfacial engineering for achieving higher stability and performance

• Scale up from laboratory cells to modules and carry out performance and stability testing

• Contribute to the evaluation and development of products and technologies to support product development objectives

• Actively maintain and promote the highest Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and contribute to EHS process improvements and their implementation

Experiences required:

• Greater than 4 years of experience in research and development of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials

• Hands-on experience on perovskite based device fabrication and engineering

• Experience in perovskite solar module design and fabrication

• Direct experience on testing and perovskite device stability characterization is highly preferred

• Experience in large area slot die coating for photovoltaic applications preferably perovskite solar cells and modules would be a huge asset

• Familiar with laser scribing process is an asset

• Experience in writing technical reports and its presentations for high level decision making

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team with as well as independently lead projects

• Industry experience is highly desirable

Education:

• Masters. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Physics, Organic Chemistry, or similar engineering discipline

• Post-doctoral or industrial experience in photovoltaic devices is an asset

Material and device characterization skills:

• SEM, XRD, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Photoluminescence

• IV, EQE, MPPT measurements

• Time resolved techniques like TPV, TPC, CELIV, etc

• Frequency resolved techniques like EIS, IMVS, IMPS

Travel:

• Travel up to 25% (both domestic and international)
