Overview:

The mission of The Sojourner Truth Public Charter School (www.thetruthschool.org) is to empower students to transform the world. Next school year, Truth will serve a diverse population of 6th-9th grade students in Washington, DC, and will continue growing each year until it serves 6th-12th grade.

• Each student’s identity, voice, perspectives, and choices matter.

Position:

The Sojourner Truth School is seeking a full-time, collaborative on-campus classroom aide. The aide will support both school operations and classroom instruction. Salary will be determined based on experience, and will be between $35,000 and $36,000 per year.

Responsibilities:

Routine Support of School Operations

• The day will begin by 8am, either driving our school’s shuttle bus to and from the Fort Totten metro station or supporting the welcoming and supervision of students as they arrive on campus
• Monitoring hallways and school grounds to ensure a safe and clean environment
• Supporting at lunch and recess with supervision duty

Daily, on-site classroom support

• Working directly with lead teachers and with students to support lessons and student work wherever possible

Collaboration

• The aide will work directly both the operations and instructional teams and will be a key contributor to a positive school climate and culture

Qualifications:

• Ability and willingness to drive Truth’s 14-passenger shuttle bus (no special license necessary!)
• Dependability and consistency; must be promptly on campus by 8am and on-site until 4pm
• High comfort level engaging directly with students, and confidence supporting them through work
• Eagerness to collaborate as a teammate
• Willingness to adhere to all COVID safety protocol
• Motivated by Truth’s mission and its desire to set a national model for a high-quality, urban public Montessori secondary school
• Experience with middle school-aged students (school, camp, tutoring, or other)
