HMP Peterborough are currently recruiting a Tutor to provide English and PHSE learning support and pass a recognised qualification.To be successful in this role, you must have a PGCE or equivalent, a degree or a level 4 qualification in a relevant subject area and experience of delivering Functional skills in the classroom.

HMP/YOI Peterborough is the country’s only purpose-built prison for both male and female prisoners (kept separate at all times), including a 12-place mother and baby unit. We are committed to offering education and development programmes to provide residents with the skills required to enter employment on release, so reducing the chances of further offending. Providing creative outlets, such as workshop activities, helps to equip those in custody for when they are released. We use ‘Restorative Approaches’ to bring people in conflict into dialogue. Using a skilled and structured process, those who have been harmed have an opportunity to be heard and those that have caused the harm are held to account for what they have done. We have strong links with the community outside through a variety of partnerships, including our outreach activity Outside Links’ offering support and advice to both residents and their families.

Role Responsibility

• To teach English to learners who are progressing through the Adult Core Curriculum

• To ensure that all learners are provided with an initial assessment and a diagnostic test.

• To signpost learners from the results of the initial assessment and the diagnostic test to relevant activities that will prepare them for gaining an external accreditation.

• To stretch and challenge all learners.

• To regularly test learners to demonstrate that they have retained knowledge.

• To ensure that Quality Assurance is of a very high standard and will undergo inspection by Team Leaders management and OFSTED.

• Achieve a Grade 2 or above in un-announced lesson observations carried out at regular intervals throughout the year.

• Work effectively and efficiently with the Team Leaders to produce innovative and stimulating lessons for learners to encourage participation whatever the level learners are starting from

• Effectively plan courses and lessons by preparing and using schemes of work and lesson plans for all classes for the benefit of the learner and for evidence at inspection/lesson observations

The Ideal Candidate

• A PGCE or equivalent

• A degree or a level 4 qualification in a relevant subject area

• Experience of delivering Functional skills in the classroom

• To have an interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders

• To have an ability to communicate effectively at all times through different mediums, including spoken and written communication.

• A flexible and responsive attitude

• Enthusiasm for the subject area

Package Description

£25,018.50 per annum

Monday-Thursday 8am-17.30, Friday 8am-11.45am
