Primary Purpose

Supports the integrity assessment of gas storage wells and reservoirs by analyzing downhole inspection data, storage reservoir properties and conditions, and overlying geology and petrophysics. In combination with well construction knowledge, interprets and analyzes downhole inspection tool data to identify corrosion growth trends. Supports inspection tool performance studies and testing as directed by Sr. Storage Field Engineers and/or the SIMP Assessment manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs remaining life (RL) analyses and integrity assessments of natural gas storage wells, based on interpretation of downhole hole inspection data and engineering-based procedures.
• Under direction of the SIMP Assessment (SA) Manager and/or Sr. Storage Field Engineers (SFEs), reviews cased hole inspection data and utilizes reservoir engineering/geoscience experience and well construction/design esperience to identify potential geologic and design-related factors that may influence corrosion growth.
• Under the direction of the SA Manager and/or Sr. SFEs, analyzes inspection data and performs statistical analysis to determine various corrosion growth rate characteristics – average growth rate, trends etc.
• Supports risk and threat studies and reservoir integrity assessments.
• Reviews gas storage well tubing inspection results and maintains a tubing inspection database.
• Works with Integrity Management, Underground Gas Storage, other SoCalGas departments and contractors to identify corrosion mitigation measures.
• Supports the development of the SA program. Maintains and updates Company Gas Standards pertaining to SA. Develops and provides input on Company Gas Standards, specifications, and SA integrity assessment procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree Petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, geology or a related discipline is required.

Experience

• 5 Gas storage, petroleum engineering, or geoscience is required.
• 2 Must have a minimum of 2-years’ experience in reservoir and well management, monitoring and integrity assessment (inclusive of total years of experience) is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of well construction and design, reservoir and well management Advanced is required.
• Ability to use and interpret downhole inspection tool (MFL, UT, through-tubing) data to assess well integrity Advanced is required.
• Petrophysics knowledge and open hole well log interpretation Intermediate is preferred.
• Knowledge of Excel and PowerBI, and statistical data analysis Advanced is required.
