Location: Bloomsbury, London – on campus three days per week, work from home two days per week. (Successful candidate will need to be resident in the UK for the duration of their contract)
Hours: Full time – 35 hours per week

About the Department
The Student Experience, Engagement & Retention team (SEER) has a mission to include, support and empower SOAS students. The vision of SEER is to: enable students from all backgrounds and experiences to feel welcome, accepted, and like they belong at SOAS; create inclusive environments for students to learn about their subject, themselves, and the world; deliver our work in a way that is student-centred and straightforward; ensure students have access to clear information and guidance; support students at their most vulnerable and empower them at their most capable.
SEER is part of the Directorate of Student and Academic Services (SAS) which has a vision to provide holistic service, support and educative experience to all students and researchers from induction, to student engagement and progression, leading to successful graduate outcomes. The Directorate will aim to provide high-level administrative support, advice and guidance to students, researchers and academic colleagues, so they receive expert, timely and accessible support across a wide range of activities.
About you
We are looking for new members of the team who love to engage students and improve student community! You love to work on big projects that make students feel welcome at university and motivated to make the most of their time with us. You have a versatile skill set – you’re comfortable working with large data sets and presenting information in an accessible format, and can work on the underlying systems needed to support engagement. You can plan big projects and enjoy coordinating large scale events, working with a variety of teams to come up with innovative and inclusive events timetables. You like to solve problems, to continuously improve things and making things easier for students to help them succeed.
About the role
The role holder will focus on key initiatives that set students up for success by improving our approach to transition to/back to university, attendance, engagement, and promoting student skills development. They will be the key point of contact for Welcome and for the Student Engagement Dashboard, and lead on planning for the Student Leaders Conference, as well as other student lifecycle initiatives.
Person specification
You will need to demonstrate:
Experience of running large scale events or activities for students
Experience of monitoring data sets to inform practice and policy decisions
Experience of identifying and implementing creative improvements to procedures and systems
Educated to first degree level or with equivalent professional experience
Ideally, you will also demonstrate:
Experience of retention, non-continuation or supporting at risk students
Experience of Quality Assurance processes in Higher Education
Good working knowledge of broader issues in the sector, particularly those affecting students
Demonstrable knowledge of confidentiality and equality issues relating to staff and students
Experience directing the workload of other people within a project e.g. student ambassadors
