Summary

The Senior Programmer (SP) independently performs systems analysis and programming functions. The SP is responsible for the following high-level responsibilities:

· Preview, evaluate, and provide guidance on the work of less experienced programmers

· Direct and supervise overall systems design

· Exhibit strong technical knowledge of existing systems and business areas

· Share knowledge as needed to educate and guide others

· Interact with other business areas

Responsibilities

• System Design: Provides conceptual and detailed design for problem resolution, new solutions, and enhancements to existing solutions
• Project Management: Collaborates with management to coordinate personnel to achieve project goals
• Mentor: Provides assistance, guidance, and leadership to less experienced programming staff
• Define and Document: Creates complete and accurate system requirements for new solutions and enhancements to existing solutions
• Investigate: Analyze existing solutions to identify problems and find opportunities for enhancements
• Programming: Executes programming tasks as required, including coding, testing, basic documentation, and the initial development of implementation/follow-up procedures
• Standards Adherence: Ensures that developed systems, including those developed under the Programmer’s guidance, adhere to all programming and documentation standards
• Flexibility: Performs other related duties as required or assigned
• Collaboration: Works with the QA team to ensurethe timely delivery of high-quality products. Works with the customer support team to resolve or diagnose issues
• Support: Diagnoses and remediates production issues related to day-to-day activities as well as a batch processing support
• Continuing Education: Maintains a strong knowledge of the financial industry as well as state-of-the-art software and system development methodologies

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• 7+ years of programming experience, preferably in the financial industry

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of applicable computer languages
• Advanced knowledge of system design methods, tools, and techniques
• Advanced knowledge of IBMi technologies – RPG, CL, SQL, and DB2
• Experience or knowledge of Service Programs, Procedures, Modules, and Binding Directories
• Ability to sequence and monitor multiple activities for self and others with organization and precision
• Ability to analyze information to formulate conclusions and offer recommendations
• Skilled in working in a team environment while maintaining a positive working relationship with co-workers
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Experience with Tables, Indexes, and Views
