The role
We are looking for a HR Manager to join our People Team and provide HR expertise and guidance to employees and management through being a trusted and knowledgeable advisor.
What you’ll be doing
We pride ourselves on creating challenging and exciting opportunities, meaning that no two days are the same. However, here’s an idea of what your responsibilities will look like:
SMG University: Take ownership and lead our internal SMG University team to deliver best in class internally training programmes and courses throughout the year.
Training: Work with stakeholders to create and develop training initiatives which improve skill levels and support learning culture.
Appraisals / performance grades: Support with the management of bi-annual appraisal & performance grade cycle, supporting managers to ensure all employees performance is managed effectively.
HR / ER tasks: Work closely with Senior HR Manager across a variety of HR matters including, performance management, reward planning and payroll.
HR Policy / Knowledge: Provide sound, informed and proactive advice in absence management, probation, performance, conduct, capability and other HR and ER issues.
Line management: Be a mentor and line manager of other HR professionals within the team, by showing support, sharing regular feedback, creating motivating objectives and supporting them with their career growth.
Relationship building: Build relationships with managers and develop relationship and understanding of their goals and priorities.
People projects: Support Senior HR Manager in short and long term projects as part of the people plan development.
What you’ll need to have / be
Demonstrable HR / L&D advisor / manager level experience.
Relevant HR qualification (CIPD Level 3 or Level 5).
Line management or mentor experience to junior HR professionals.
Excellent communication, planning & organisational skills.
Ability to handle a range of issues with sensitivity and confidentiality.
A solid understanding of the key principles of employment law and experience supporting ER cases.
Curiosity to help identify issues and spot opportunities for improvement.
Advanced MS Office skills, including PowerPoint.

The process
We will invite you to a first interview which we try to keep relatively informal, so it gives you the opportunity to share your authentic self. The hiring team will be looking to understand more about your experience and why you’re interested in working with us.
There will be a second interview which will last a little longer, and involve some form of task to showcase your ability to do the role.
We then invite you to a meet & greet which is an opportunity for you to meet the team you’ll be joining and ask them questions about the role and wider business.
