Smart Talent is seeking a Staff Accountant for a Food/Beverage Manufacturing company in Poultney, Vermont. This position will focus on Bookkeeping, AP/AR and Financial Data. Ideal candidate will have 3 years of Accounting (GAAP) experience preferably in Food/Beverage Manufacturing or Hospitality, an Accounting degree and strong technical skills.

This is a Direct Hire position paying $55k-$75k DOE and a benefit package which includes Health (subsidized premiums), incentives based on company/individual performance, 401k match, 20% WFH option, gym membership, product discounts and more!!

Shift is Monday – Friday – days – potential of WFH 1 day a week

OVERVIEW

As a Staff Accountant you will be on the front lines of financial data generation, maintenance, delivery, and excellence. Your work will form the foundation for enterprise resourcing, decision-making, and corporate strategy. You will hunt down cash owed to our treasury, review all bills for accuracy, and ensure that our vendors approve of us as first-class partners. This position sits within the beating heart of our business and is expected to be highly collaborative with all departments.

ABOUT YOU

We seek someone—ideally a meticulous, detail-oriented, highly-organized crusher—to comb through our books and help us achieve the goal of aligning our financial resources against our stated business objectives. You should be obsessed with correctness, consistency, and completeness. You must embrace, indeed revel in, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP): we need a professional with a single-minded focus on running a tight, flawless, and analytically useful set of books.

• Have strong knowledge of financial accounting systems (QuickBooks a must, but ideally has familiarity with Sage Intacct, SAP, and/or Oracle)
• Be energized by working in and with Excel spreadsheets
• Be a master budgeter, a champion who leads the process of pulling together projected numbers with the team, holds the team accountable to staying within budget, has mercy when plans must change, and partners with those who are impacted to keep our budgets fresh and relevant
• Possess a bold spirit of refinement to challenge the status quo and push for more efficient systems and processes that better help us achieve our goal
• Hunger and thirst for perfection, but exercises astute judgment when prioritizing opportunities for improvement
• Serve as a key collaborator with the rest of the finance team, providing backup in cases where we need redundancy
• Appreciate the importance of analytics and the role of financial data in driving the business forward
• Possess exceptional organizational skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform all accounting for our core business—own all transactions and journal entries within our financial accounting software
• Assist in month end, quarter end, and year end closings
• Ensure data completeness, correctness, and timeliness
• Be a good steward of our chart of accounts—ensure these are a good reflection of how we think about our business and that all transactions are properly binned
• Create analytically useful tags and annotations for general ledger data
• Provide efficient reporting to finance team, Owner, and external stakeholders
• Help with clerical functions around insurance, HR, taxes, or otherwise needed by our Finance team leadership
• Exhibit exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills across all aforementioned responsibilities
• Be a stand-up worker who will always do the right thing; someone which is transparent, straightforward, and ethical at all times
• Help implement a strong system of accounting and cyber controls

REQUIREMENTS

• 3 years of Accounting experience (Bookkeeping, AP/AR, and Financial Data)
• Highly familiar with Generally Applied Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Expert at QuickBooks and knowledge with other financial accounting systems
• Strong with Microsoft suite of products—Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Solution-oriented, practical, comfortable researching and resolving problems
• Comfortable multi-tasking across tens of concurrent tasks in a given day
• Entrepreneurial spirit—driven to find the best ways of doing things and compounding that knowledge for others
• Data-and-analytics-oriented—knows that junk in = junk out and is able to generate insights from data
• Willingness to roll up sleeves and do whatever it takes to achieve business objectives
• Undergraduate degree
