The Job:

SmartStart Education seeks a middle and high school biology substitute to work with groups of middle and high school students Monday-Friday. The grade levels to be taught are 6th through 12th grades. The substitute will help students with the following objectives (i.e. accurately explain the characteristics of living things, describe the energy flow between organisms in an ecosystem, define the human impact on the environment, recognizes the scientific difference between living and nonliving things.

Job Details:

The tutoring position begins promptly ASAP and ends on June 15, 2023. The schedule will be 7:30 am through 2:30 pm. Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews as soon as possible in order to allow ample time to complete onboarding steps. Failure to do so may result in a position being unavailable.

Hiring Process:

Qualified Candidates:

• Hold a minimum bachelor’s degree (preferably in science or education)
• Have at least one-year teaching/tutoring experience either in a school or other educational setting
• Understand the needs of urban students, schools, and communities including racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity
• Possess subject matter mastery in middle and/or high school biology concepts and skills
• Show a passion and commitment to the success of students
• Bilingual in Spanish (preferred, but not required)
• Punctual
• Proficient communication skills
• Can commute comfortably to the location
